oh, yes— and the cathedral.
the cathedral was older than you, older than your mother, and older still. the memory of it remains at the back of your mind, like a shadow.

it was beautiful, made of stone and rotting wood. the stained glass windows depicted ancient gods you tried to forget, and the altar was inlaid with gold.

yes, the memory is coming back to you. you met her there, didn't you?

no. the memory is too painful. she is gone now, anyways. she has been forgotten.

and you alone seem to remember.

but it is too hard. the guilt makes you squirm. you got rid of everything that made you think of her, but the cathedral still lasts.
