How to Check Accent Coverage in GIMP
There is an official tutorial on checking coverage in GIMP but it is both outdated and unnecessarily complicated. Here's a guide to how to do it quickly and easily.
This guide was made using GIMP 2.10.28 but should work for other versions as well.
The basic steps are:
For the more detailed instructions, I will be using this beautiful accent as an example:
I spent so long on it I hope you like it
1. Select dragon base
You want to create a new selection from the alpha (which parts of a layer are transparent or not).
If you've flattened the dragon base into a single layer, you can work from that. If it's still in multiple layers, you can either work from the entire layer group ("Skin Parts"), or select the "Base Colors" layer (at the bottom of the stack).
Right click on the layer or layer group in the layers dialogue, and choose "Alpha to Selection"
If you are working with a single layer here, you can also go through the menu: Layer>Transparency>Alpha to Selection
2. Set your accent as the active layer
Just select the layer with your accent in the Layers Dialogue.
If your accent is on multiple layers, you will need to either flatten it into a single layer, or combine them into a layer group and click the group.
