As the clan under Hemlock and Cilla's rule grows, Marlon is called in as a body guard. Unlike many of the clan's other fighters, he is not loyal to Cilla, or to the clan as a whole. Rather, he is more of a personal escort for Hemlock and his immediate family. Although Dewdrop finds this alignment suspicious, her complaints fall on deaf ears, especially after it comes to light that he is courting Venia. After all, Cilla argues, isn't it only natural for a dragon to want to protect his own mate and her family?

While Marlon is quiet most of the time, he is certainly not complacent. Rather, he prefers not to waste his attention with small talk. As the next big battle looms ever closer on the horizon, his silent anticipation is almost tangible.
