Gharial is the head of the small group that fishes in the isles small - but plentiful - freshwater system made of up the primarily mountainous Lake Veloden and the rivers and streams that flow from it. The group also hunts in the underground freshwater pools that can be found burrowed beneath the islands surface.
Many question the need for freshwater resources considering the surrounding ocean and its bountiful resources, especially with a coral reef and local seal population that negates any serious need for them.

Most of xeir clanmates look on in bemusement, having already learned their lesson on questioning Gharial when xey set xeir mind to something - but not quite everyone has learned this lesson yet.
“Are you sure you don’t want to change before you go fishing, Gharial? You…” the clan’s newest member asks, gesturing to the foraging apparel that Gharial has donned with a confused look. Their words trail off at the look the rest of their clanmates try to shoot them in warning - but the meaning behind the looks ultimately goes over their head, and they doom themselves by finishing their train of thought, “are not really dressed for it.”
Gharial’s answering snort is both amused and haughty, and xeir eyes shift like yellow-green kaleidoscopes under sunlight filtering through the overhead leaves as xey turn to look at the newcomer. “Have you ever tried fishing in the Mire, kid?”
The other clanmates are not jealous of the hard day of work Gharial is about to subject the poor, naïve newcomer to.
