While the Duchess doesn’t take kindly to strangers the opposite is true for those she considers her own. Those under the Duchess’s protection often enjoy her absolute loyalty and occasionally generous nature. She can be especially kind to younglings, having adopted and raised many of the Stygian Roses. ━━ Biography ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Growing up in the Court of Thorns and Roses is never a pleasant experience. Melisa dealt with everything from politics to backstabbing, murder to false alliances during her childhood. She learned to be suspicious of everyone and never, ever, do anything without several backup plans in case someone decides you’ve gotten in their way. There’s only one dragon Melisa loves from the Court, that being her lovely mother of course. Queen Guinevere’s attention is the only reason Melisa continues to return to the Court and tolerate her less than loving family. After finally deciding she needed to carve her own place in the world to gain her mother’s attention Melisa joined the Sanctuary. A place that viewed itself as a safe haven for all, wouldn’t it be the perfect little place to start her own business? And what a place it was. Plenty of conveniently unstable dragons to recruit and an excessive amount of room to start a black market. It was absurdly easy for Melisa to… dispose of the current competition and gain loyal followers. Once she declared herself the Duchess Melisa of the Duskthorn Covert and Stygian Roses, everyone learned to fear her. Not even the Sanctuary dared to touch her black market! Of course they believed her promise of keeping all those rather dangerous things out… as long as she wasn’t offered the right price… The Stygian Roses are the Duchess’s enforcers, followers, and children all in one. Many are actually her adopted children and the rest have been tested to the extremes to ensure their absolute loyalty. In return the Duchess will never forsaken them or allow harm to them without severe repercussions. She cares for them more than she cares for herself and that is a very rare thing from a child of the Court of Thorns and Roses. ━━ Notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ - Takes several suitors rather than a mate and prefers to be courted rather than court - While she fears her biological relatives she will never let it show and actively tries to prove she isn't - A Shadow Serpentskin is the only warning the Duchess will give before her hunt begins
