Biography
❅ HÁLS BLEIKHAS ❅
The Beating Heart of Port Gangleri
The Beating Heart of Port Gangleri
| _ |
Where her beloved, Báleygr, is fiery and wild, Háls is tempered and mild. She is the leash on his unhinged insanity, blessed with the kind of disappointed smile to make even the harrowed dragon wither with shame. And it is with little fanfare that Háls tackles her days, always ready to do what needs be done and remarkably unflappable. Not only is she Báleygr's better half, but she is Gangleri's beating heart, too, and serves proudly as its Logistics Wranger. And if she sometimes badgers Báleygr into turning his madness onto anyone trying to cross her or argue, well... a dragon needs to use all available resources, surely. She takes to her job with a gentle smile, a steady heart, and patience as vast as the oceans themselves. |
|
_ Always having done well with numbers, lists, and organizing things as a whole, Háls was entirely qualified to go from 'homeless nutjob wranger' to 'making sense of three months worth of undone paperwork for the port's overall business'. The supply chain was in tatters. A storehouse was somehow listed as unfinished and fully loaded, despite being used as an illegal familiar-breeding operation. This is what Háls was unceremoniously thrust at in exchange for Gangleri deciding not to skin her beloved mate after he set fire to the ocean. It is still unknown how he managed to do this. But, well, he did. Háls, being the 'common sense' to Báleygr's 'incomprehensible rage', had decided there wouldn't be a better offer coming and jumped on the chance. |
______HELLFIRE; SOOTSTAINED
She vividly recalls the stench of death; bodily fluids and rot, thick and pungent, filling her lungs until she was choking on it. The memories from the last few days were wiped clean, then, and have yet to fully return to her, and Háls is glad. A part of her does not wish to remember it.
But she remembers the aftermath. There had been dragons scouring the battlefield, seeking out survivors and valuables, and they carried unfamiliar banners. Screams, sobs, the dying begging for their mothers, it had rattled in her skull endlessly, and Háls had been unable to escape it. She'd been pinned beneath what remained of a larger dragon, hidden from view, and the only reason she made it out with her life was because she made a convincing corpse.
(It had been a stranger she'd been pinned beneath, a traveller seeking a place to rest. He'd been slaughtered alongside the rest of them. Háls didn't even know his name.)
The dragons that had killed them all was chased off by a sudden, raging inferno tearing through the landscape, unannounced and wild. It tore through everything that remained, turned bodies to bones and ruins to ashes, and the ones that'd murdered her clan was forced to flee. Their attempts at quelling it did nothing, the flames only roaring louder when they tried to douse them, and Háls watched the world burn. She watched it burn and felt only peace.
Báleygr appeared from nowhere, eyes wild and unhinged. He looked at her, took in her pitiful state and empty gaze, and he dragged her to safety. Even when Háls protested, even when the grief hit her, Báleygr pulled her away.
Away, away, away. Further and further.
"The fire cleanses," Báleygr had informed her once they reached the seaside. They had been travelling for days.
Háls had looked at him, then, and nodded. Everything felt unreal, an endless nightmare, and she was exhausted, but she was not alone. A spark of life flared in her chest. "It cleanses," she echoed. "And it rages. Sometimes... sometimes, we need both."
________ » Though she won't admit it, Háls' decision to accept Gangleri's offer of a job was just as much for the dental as the 'please don't skin my husband' angle. » Might indulge in some industrial espionage from time to time. You know, just girl things, right? Everyone does it, it's not a big deal. » Due to her position, Háls is one of the highest ranking dragons in Gangleri, answering only to the Overseer. And the supply chain, of course. » Can't actually swim. Which is somewhat problematic since she does, in fact, live in a little outpost based entirely around a port. |
