Peace

Suspicious Flying Painting

Uh-oh, looks like this blessed painting wandered a little too far from his home lair ( 678844, GhostCollective), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt them, we'd really appreciate it if you instead could just send them off in the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread. If you don't want another traveler in return, they can be sent to their original home via the Crossroads, or this rest hub.

Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it!

Origin: Starshell Island
Occupation: chemist specializing in poisons and toxins, model
Personality: excitable but cautious, slightly vain.

Luggage:
Arcane Aura
Black and White Flair Scarf — gifted by Spooner
Violet Flowerfall — gifted by GhostCollective
Gossamer Wing Silks — gifted by GhostCollective
Nebula Starsilk Earrings — gifted by GhostCollective

Peace isn't as naive and sheltered as one might assume a dragon this pretty to be. His seemingly loving parents abandoned the entire litter of hatchlings when Peace was very young, leaving him to find his own way in the world. Another clan member was eventually persuaded to share with Peace their knowledge of the natural world, including brewing various potions using a variety of ingredients, ranging from plants to parts of other dragons. While Peace did enjoy this part of the craft, he was not particularly good at brewing cold medicine, and all of his potions turned out to be extremely toxic. Eventually, he decided that if this was his talent, he might as well do it on purpose, but his teacher did not allow him to leave without first learning several non-lethal recipes that might impair a target, or render them unconscious. 'We don't kill,' the teacher said, 'unless we have to.'

As he grew older and wiser, Peace became much more tempered with his use of his talents, and generally, he hides the danger of his skill beneath the facade of an aspiring model seeking fame. It's not too big of a lie. Being famous across Sorneith and getting paid to be stunning sounds like a good deal, it already comes so easy to him. And if he happens to find his parents in his travels, well... Fine.

Peace's Travel Log:

Slatinus Clan Starshell wrote:
Clan Starshell was home to the Plague dragon that was Peace's teacher, who did not fancy themselves much of an instructor, but felt bad for the vulnerable fae who was so easily taken advantage of. Their efforts to teach Peace a valuable skill yielded rather unexpected results, but if nothing else, the Mirror was satisfied that Peace could definitely fend for himself now.

The unnamed clan that Peace visited laid alongside a beautiful river in Shadow Territory. A kindly resident, VooDoo, accompanied Peace for the majority of his stay. Peace was facinated by the fortune telling VooDoo and his friends did (and by the fact that the Coatl seemed to be incapable of aging) and was compelled to learn about it. Eternal youth might come in handy for someone whose profession was so dependent on looks. But VooDoo was not keen to share those kinds of secrets, so Peace settled for Star Reading, which he was eventually able to persuade them to teach him. Then he left, the stars as his guide.

Trading one nameless clan for another, he next met a beautiful and wise Coatl, Persephone, who taught him more about the plants found in Shadowbinder's territory. This, finally elucidated for him the misery of salves, tinctures, and other types of medicine that he had he had originally failed to learn to craft under Vein.

Eventually, he found a clan that did have a name. And with that, Kintsugi, a fellow dragon that happened to look like art. Kintsugi also happened to make art. That was the first time Peace ever noticed that his poisons happened to often be extraordinarily vibrant colors, and decided to refine several compounds into paint.

An interest in the esoteric and strange took him to Hewn City. He was surprised to find no evidence of haunting, only a thick, dull darkness that made it impossible to see far. It was only when he got hungry that he realized he had gone hours without seeing another dragon. He thought he had kept good enough track of his surroundings that he could find his way out again, but it turned out he was lost. After what seemed like forever, the sun started going down, threatening to plunge him into complete darkness. Finally another dragon found him, a fae riding an elk. He introduced himself as Eglan and offered to take Peace back to his place for the night, which Peace gratefully accepted.

After spending the night with Eglan and his grumpy roommate, Peace got a map that could direct him to the nearest settlement, Lantern Corridor. It had a lot of shady characters, but Peace was something of a shady character himself; he figured he'd fit right in. When he got there, it was crowded, as everyone wanted to be as close to the light as possible. He wanted to find a place to set up shop, maybe do some fortune-telling to make a little money (since nobody was looking for a model, or for wall decor) but it turned out that if you tried to start a new shop there without being in the good graces of certain dragons, you would run into trouble. Discouraged, and mot currently in possession of the necessary supplies to 'mollify' any hostile parties, he wandered down the length of the corridor to see what he could see.

At the end of the lit region was a strangely built but luxurious house; it seemed like the sort of house that would belong to a bogsneak. There was no bogsneak in sight, however - only a grinning mirror, seemingly guarding the house, teeth sparkling more than the stars on her hide. Almost as soon as he laid eyes on her, she closed the distance between them and started circling him. "Hello, gorgeous," she said with a surprisingly deep voice. "Ever thought about going into modeling?"

Something was very off about this mirror, but he could not simply fly up and away; he would just get lost again. Maybe if he was polite, she would just leave him be. "W-Why yes, actually, I've always wanted to model. If the price is right, of course. But I'm a traveler, so I couldn't stay long in any one place. You know how it is."

"Of course, of course," the mirror purred. "It's just that I heard there is a boutique in Mirrorlight Promenade that's been looking for a fae model. Their signature starsilk is made right here in Lantern Corridor, and they sell the clothing there. You like starsilk?"

That didn't sound so bad. "Sure, uh, yeah. I guess I'll check it out."

"Good, good." She pulled some slips of paper out of her pack and selected a small one with a strange insignia on it. "If you just take that to Celeste, she'll know that I recommended you, and I'm sure you can get something worked out."

Peace took the paper and thanked her, and she slunk back to her original spot without another word. Now it was time to get out of there. He made his way slowly back to the front of the corridor, not stopping for so much as a souvenir, and used his map to get out of Hewn City. As much as he wanted a modeling opportunity, that was far too suspicious. Next.

Next, Peace decided he needed some...well, peace. He flew to the Gladekeeper's domain, traveling to a sanctuary for weary travelers. He wasn't expecting much out of his stay there, since he was just there to rest, but the Caretaker of this place did teach him how to make delicious ice cream. That knowledge much come in handy in case he needed to mask the taste of poison...

Peace eventually made his way to the Clannof Cloudsplit and was delighted to find it was full of his family! He got to meet his great aunts, cousins, and uncles. He told them he was a model, and made his grandmother very proud. Peace was tasked with watching the hatchlings and keeping them entertained during his stay but was able to try out his poisons on traps laid out for food.

For the longest time he settled in the confines of the Wanderer's Clan. He couldn't quite understand why it was called such when they never actually went anywhere. In fact, he thought it was quite time for them to do some wandering for their clan was only growing and the land was only growing more cramped. Peace had witnessed many other dragons come and go, including his temporary master of poisons; a coatl who left a golden bird skull headdress behind in place of his name. Peace would wear it, except it wasn't quite to his taste, and as a model, taste was something he had in great quantity.

He had a few flings with another fae, Lanaryu. He also got on great with a couple of the many familiars lurking around the place. He stayed for the longest time, but gradually it became too cramped for him and decided it was time to leave. He'd left his legacy on this clan.

Peace once again made his way back to the Clan of Clousplit. His grandmother was almost done eith her 100 hatchling challenge, and the clan had grown much larger. He was able to relax and get to know all the new members and was put to work.

After some time, Peace made his way to the Southern Icefields, where he met a fae named Maika and a tundra hatchling called Corin. Maika was hesitant to so easily trust a stranger, and Corin seemed to be very shy. Eventually, though, they seemed to warm up to him, if only a little. They told him about how they had met each other at the research facility by the Frozen Sanctum. How Corin had left his home in search of his mother, who had left their cave and didn't return. How Maika had agreed(though begrudgingly, but she didn't let Corin hear that part) to accompany him as far as Snowsquall.

The pair seemed to get along well enough as far as Peace could tell. Maika clearly wasn't well suited for children, but she seemed to tolerate Corin well enough. Corin himself seemed very unsure of how to act around Maika, and especially so around Peace. Perhaps he doesn't meet a lot of new people. Either way, Peace joined the duo on their journey, if only for a short time.

Peace was in, and Peace was out again. He peaced out, if you will. Except, like, now he had clothes and stuff. So that was pretty rad.

There were a lot of very beautiful dragons in the clan, or at least a lot of strong and muscle-y ones, and they were all into modelling about as much as they were into dirtbikes - which is to say, they were obsessed with it. There weren't many Fae, though, so Peace didn't stay too long. Said he might come back to stay if the clan bought a few more Fae, which they... seemed okay with taking him up on.

GhostCollective wrote:

A shadow dragon leading a clan settled on Light Flight territory was already weird enough, but who in their right mind would choose to try and make life work in the Emperor's Wake of all places? He asked her more than once, but Lytra never replied. As for her mate, he didn't seem capable of speech at all. Whatever secrets he knew, he was keeping them.

In between sessions of "Hide From The Undead Dragon", he often saw large groups of veilspun hatchlings playing with what appeared to be a lifezised stuffed doll in the shape of a Fae. His vanity got the better of him as he started imagining what it would be like to have such a piece of art made in his own image, but when he went to ask the veilspuns who had crafted the toy, he discovered that she was, in fact, very much alive, and very much a real dragon.

Plushie had a natural inclination for rearing hatchlings, and as such had taken on this responsibility voluntarily. Nobody ever asked her to look after their children. They just knew that, out in a place like this, if your kid was not in your nest, they were with Plushie, or they were dead. Perhaps, somewhere else, concerned parents might have taken their chances with a tougher sort, maybe a Guardian, but a big strong protector wasn't always an advantage. They could be a liability, if they stood out at the wrong time. Plushie was a master of evasive maneuvers, and, despite her bright colors, stealth. Although her small statue made her appear defenseless, Peace knew first hand that it was something of an unfair stereotype. It would've been difficult for anyone to hurt her or any of the hatchlings in her care. They would have to touch her first, and that was a tall order.

If anyone knew exactly how the two of them ended up in a nest together, nobody would say. Nobody wanted to comment on whether that influenced his decision to call this new clan home base, either. He had warned her that he was a wandering soul, of course, to which she had replied, "No offense, Peace, but I was kind of hoping you would be gone for most of this. I prefer raising hatchlings on my own."

Weirdly, that made him want to stay a while.
