CAMILLE the JUST Camille is not your average spiral. She is not anxious or easily distracted. She is tough, calculating, and surefooted. She never regrets a choice, never doubts the path she walks. Even as a hatchling, her family would watch bemusedly while she solemnly debated political theory with the elders, going so far as to cite lengthy passages from textbooks she knew they hadn't read. Watching a hatchling bring a giant imperial nearly to tears over the Arcanist's history with autocracy was truly... well, memorable. She never cared what others thought of her, though. She just hated when dragons were ill-informed, yet insistent on their opinion. What was the point in pretending you were the expert when you couldn't even be bothered to read the thousands of first-person accounts hidden deep in the local library?

Ah, well -- maybe she was more dedicated to the truth than most. But she had never doubted what she wanted to do with her life -- she wanted to uphold peace, and with everlasting peace there must be justice and accountability. Peace without justice, to Camille, is like a book without pages. Completely useless.

Growing up on the border between Light and Lightning had also taught her that knowledge alone was like a sword -- valuable, but useless without a hand to wield it. From the industrious Lightning dragons in her city she learned that to create change, one must act decisively, with the power of knowledge and past experience guiding her.

In truth, she learned that if she meant to live by her ideals, she had better get somewhere. Playing it safe and staying in the city in which she was born was the wrong choice, no matter how lovely of a city it was. She had to read other accounts -- she had to actually find the evil in the world in order to defeat it.

Her father was already a nomadic presence in her life, in and out as he pleased with his gang of ragtag desert traders. One morning, without saying goodbye, she hid in his caravan and rode to the next city, where she began her search for evil. The idea that she might encounter dragons who meant her harm scared her, and she hoped she would find allies to aid in her quest. Trepidation filled her, but she wrapped herself tighter in her cloak and watched the road in front of her unfold.

She never once looked back at her childhood home.
