Biography
~Melawi~
Resident of the Mangrove Coral Coast
Nest 16
Background:
Melawi grew up in a turbulent cave cliff on a lonely island, with a mother who was prone to mood swings and outbursts of rage. Despite her best efforts, Charybdis struggled to control her emotions and often took out her frustration on her young offspring. Melawi and her siblings learned to tread carefully around their mother, never quite sure when she might lash out.
With the aid of her more outspoken clutchmate sister Ludwigia, they snuck out and braved the sea together to escape home. After a day of swimming with no land in sight, Melawi struggled against the currents and became too tired to continue. Ludwigia, the stronger of the two, made the difficult decision to return home. Slumped over her back, Melawi wept at her own weakness and fear of their mother's retribution.
To both of their surprise, Charybdis barely reacted at all to their attempted escape. If anything, she seemed more supportive and friendly to the two than before their departure. Puzzled, Melawi studied their mother as she recovered. While still unstable and prone to lashing out, she seemed pleased at her children striking off on their own, strong enough to brave the ocean that she was trapped by. They had already disappointed her with their lack of power, unable to free her from her shackles. It was better to leave and become part of the surrounding world than stay and remind her of her limitations.
Melawi began practicing swimming every day, even requesting her mother to run currents against her to increase her training. She knew Ludwigia would easily be able to make it to land, and encouraged her to just leave, but her stubborn sister refused to leave her side, instead pestering Charybdis about her knowledge of plantlife and ocean currents that sustained them, much to her mother's irritation and ire.
The day came when they finally set out from their rocky island home, ready for the next chapter of their life.
Current:
Uses her small amount of magic to fertilize gardens, especially plants that grow mostly underwater. Lives at the end of a river where it meets the ocean, within the coastal area of the forest. Tends the few coral reefs that grow near the mangrove trees lining the coastline.
