Biography

The Soul Mirror

Rensyr is cursed. Long ago, there was a magical artifact unearthed called The Soul Mirror. One look into the mirror would reveal one's 'true self'. It was coveted by powerful dragons, sometimes able to tell them with a look whether they were on the verge of death. After all, if a 'true self' was some withering, decaying thing then surely the dragon did not have long to live?

Over the years however, as it traded hands and kingdoms, rumors circulated that the Mirror had a mind of it's own. No longer would it simply give answers for free. Instead the mirror would pose a question first related to what it would reveal. If a dragon told the Mirror a lie, it would kill them.

Still, it was left to be traded amongst people who sought it out, putting themselves in danger...Until again it seemed to grow in power. As if it had legs of it's own, the Mirror was found in spots it had not last been left. Moreover, it would accost those it came across, trapping them by posing as a normal mirror to be picked up and put away and forcing unsuspecting victims into answering it's questions or suffering.

Magical communities eventually labelled the artifact dangerous and sought to put a stop to it. Rensyr was one such mage, working for a coalition that sealed away dangerous magical items and beasts. Only when he finally found the mirror, something went wrong. In a last ditch effort to save itself from isolation, the mirror became one with Rensyr. Absorbed right through his scales, witnesses said.

Now Rensyr lives as an immortal half-dragon, half-magical-artifact. He cannot always control the Mirror inside of him and odd things set him off into acting as the Mirror's mouthpiece, questioning dragons as to their true form before revealing it himself. Dragons that tell him lies, even those that do so on accident because they are unsure of themselves, suffer a bad fate.
