Biography
Cairn
Cairn is a cool-headed scholar, brought into the clan on a recommendation to care for their quickly growing collection of books and scrolls. He had been doing an excellent job of it, keeping the library organized and helping the witches and scholars find the texts they're looking for. All of them grew fond of him, which actually put him in a precarious position. The witches of the clan have intense rivalries, and if he aligns himself too closely with any one of them, he risks alienating the others. While he stays neutral for a long time, he is ultimately forced to take sides when the clan splits in two.
One of the clan's nocturnes, Casey, has become quite taken with him. He thought for a long time that she was younger than him, since she's so playful. She was always bothering him to put aside his studies and do something fun. While he found it irritating at first, he has since discovered that giving in once in a while is good for him. Their joint excursions brought him closer not only to Casey but to the rest of the less academically-inclined in the clan.
Ironically, it is this same love for the clan at large that tears them apart. When Casey takes Hemlock's side, Cairn is disappointed with her illogical and dangerous affiliation, and doesn't hesitate to make this known. His expectation that Casey will see reason quickly crashes, as she accepts a strange new power from Hemlock and follows him to the Forbidden Portal.
Now left in the rubble of a once-great library, Cairn keeps himself busy trying to put it back together, and reciting from memory the missing texts as they're needed. Even months later, he still has to remind himself that Casey won't come bother him to go out and have fun any time soon.
