Biography

"We would like to make you an offer." Those were the words of a wise woman who changed me life. She, along with a peculiar coatl who gave me the top hat for the occasion, gave me control over a virtual reality called the Hunger Games. However, my story to that point started a long while before that. I am finally ready to tell that tale.

"How long have you felt this way? The way that was described?"

"Come now. You know you can share with me, this is a comfortable space. Confidential."

"It's normal to feel afraid, but I can see past that. I know your mouth can work. Why won't you answer my questions?"

Lungs were one of the strangest organs. The unconscious pull of air created by nothingness. Some days I wish I could just push out all the air and create a little void inside my chest to pull me into the nothingness. I let the silence hang in the room, unpressured by the unfaltering stare of the Guardian sitting before me.

"Take him away. I can see him again whenever he's ready to make progress."

Progress. As if they way she said progress was the same way that I said progress. I was carted away, back to the cramped four walls that would become my resting place. I would be buried to the turn of that clock constantly ticking on the wall.

Everything was grey, and no amount of color in the outside world would change how my life was and always would be.

~~~
"How long have you felt this way? The way that was described?"
Silence.
Lungs were one of the strangest organs. Constant like a drum but quiet like a single bell ringing out over an auditorium. I wish I wasn't alone in the expanse of noiseless earth.
~~~

"How long have you felt this way? The way that was described?"

"A while."

Lungs were one of the strangest organs. Always steady, but sometimes not. Every once an a while a cough would escape. Something natural yet something taboo. A mishap, a hiccup, a brand.

The morning chill bit at my lungs as I sucked in a breath. "Morning," A familiar deep voice brushed my ears as I blinked my eyes. "Sleep well?" Entodon.

"I-… I don't know." I murmured, taking another deep breath as I closed my eyes. It still felt so real, but my memory was already drizzling away. I felt a thick blanket draped over my shoulders, sparking my attention back to the male before me. Entodon was a dark scaled Imperial that held more age in his heart than his body had. Like an elder brother to me, Entodon took me under his wing soon after we had met.

"Want breakfast? I can make you up something real quick before I head off to the north?" Entodon offered, in that gentle tone he always used after little stutters like this. I shook my head, favoring to rub at my eyes- even if the action was really just another way to hide. Entodon said something negligible in response before leaving to grab his things. He was something in between a businessman and an ambassador, I never really fully understood nor did I have the desire to ask for further clarification.

I made myself slowly get out of bed, using my arms to drag the rest of my limp body into my wheeled chair. It always took a bit to get adjusted, but it was more supportive than my old one. Another reason that I was thankful for Entodon. Designed like a wagon, the chair's platform held up my entire body behind me so my arms could hang off the front and I could drag myself around. Sometimes it became inconvenient for getting around, but that was inevitable in their small home carved into a mountain.

I carted myself out to find a plate of warm breakfast and a door swinging shut as Entodon left. That man was too good, and most definitely too good for a cripple like me. Why he had such a big heart, I did not know- but I knew he was a good cook, and that was all I was focused on at the moment.

"Eat."

"Do you want to starve?"

"Listen, you're gonna eat. I- you know what, hold him, he's not supposed to expire yet."

Lungs were one of the strangest organs. They overrode everything, even in water, they would force you to breathe. Even when food was going down a throat, lungs would never cease the constant intake and output of air.

~~~
"Eat."
Silence.
Lungs were one of the strangest organs. They learned when to breathe, between bites of food and gulps of water. They learned when to push and when to hold.
~~~

"Eat."

"Okay."

Lungs were one of the strangest organs. They could be so unpredictable at times, but eventually they settled down into a rhythm. An almost calming presence.

A metal plate filled with mush was slid in front of me. The intent of the actions were unclear from the child's smile.

I threw myself to the floor, gasping for breath.

"Seko? Seko!" Entodon crashed into the room, stopping just a hairsbreadth away from me. "Seko, tell me what's wrong, what can I do?" I spat the food out of my mouth and curled my head inwards, as if that could stop something. I couldn't catch my breath, and my heart felt like it was finally failing. Entodon was saying something else, but all I could hear was ringing. Never ending ringing. They were choking me again. I was stuck. Always stuck.

"Seko!" Entodon's voice and arms wrapped around me, pulling my face into his warm chest, woke me from my panic. The man had wrestled me into a protective hug, holding me in a way that felt unfamiliar yet needed. "Seko, it's okay, it's okay, I'm right here. Nothing's gonna get you. Just breathe for me, okay? Please." I did as requested, though I shoved my face closer against the man's muscled chest.

"Seko, are you in danger?"

I didn't respond.

"Seko, you were not born the way you are now." He was referring to my crippled body, my panic attacks, my disconnection. I confirmed his statement with a slight nod of my head against his body. He tightened his hug.

"Will you tell me where I can find them?"

"No."

After that incident, Entodon moved up into a secluded home in the mountains. It was a long trip, but Entodon did all the work for moving the personal belongings and helping me get there. I didn't talk much for a couple weeks after the move.

There was no time for words today.

Dark corridors were too long for haste to be a viable option. Death was looming with each passing second. They would find out. They would know. And they would kill. Mercy did not exist in their hearts. Right now, death didn't seem like that much of an enemy. Maybe that's why escape didn't seem so daunting.

Ringing started abruptly like a crow's caw in the morning. It was a piercing noise that sunk into all the senses. They knew. They were coming.

The long halls turned and twisted, it was an eternity yet also a second before a light shown into the walk way. A window, barely large enough to squeeze through. Barely. A useless body was a chain to this life and the height of the walls were like another facet of this prison. The grass outside, just within reach, was like a kiss. A promise of hope. Of a future.

And a shout of anger was like a knife thrown into a mirror. They were here. Everything was cascading down in a magnificent failure. The crippled would finally be set free. That was my thought process until I saw a red smudge come into view behind them. The little thing who had been so friendly, so cheerful, had a grin on his face as he shredded them into bloody ribbons.

Freedom came soon after, and the red smudge was lost in the bloodshed.

I dragged myself through the muddy pathway. Rain covered my stench, hopefully, but it made it no easier to get away. The icy droplets bit at my skin, and my arms were nearly unusable due to exhaustion. Freedom was what I got, dead or alive.

“Are you okay there?” A deep voice called through the rain and darkness. I panicked, shrimping through the mud in and useless attempt at getting away. It was only moments before my arms gave out anyways. The stranger approached. “Oh my… let me help you,” I could hardly even see the stranger through the mud in my eyes, but I couldn’t do much to object. It wasn’t long before the other male heaved me into his arms and took me to his home.

It was a little quaint home with a mossy roof. The imperial made quick work of the lock and took me to a cosy couch in the living space- despite the mud that coated my body. “My name is Entodon.
