Daily Theme: 3 - The Flesh Applicable CW & Additional Notes: Rats, animal death/cannibalism, general horror, use of squeamish words I had no idea what to write. Then I looked at the Rat King and Ghostly Rat Lord. And then their food items. And now I am sorry. So if it's too much and should be removed, please let me know. Also let me know if I missed any CW tags. |

Survive. Devour. Grow. It claws, it bites, it kicks at the squirming bodies around it, kicking and biting and clawing in turn. It knows nothing but the Tangle, bodies pressing against it, nails raking its skin, teeth digging into its flesh, an endless mass of rats squeaking and squealing and squirming through the murk of the Waterway. It knows nothing but the hunger, gnawing eternally, insatiable, demanding to feast, demanding to devour, demanding more, more, more! The Tangle churns and twists, and it twists and churns with the Tangle, through never-ending bodies and claws and teeth seeking to stop the never-ending hunger gnawing inside of it. Then claws dig into its flanks with purpose, deeper than the usual claws. Its twisting turns into writhing and its squealing turns into a scream that cuts through the squeaking and squealing of millions, and the millions seem to quiet as two of their own entangle in an embrace of tooth and claw. It twists to face the other and sees its own hunger reflected in the other's eyes as the other prepares to feast. But this is not its end. It must survive. It must devour. It must grow. And so it kicks, squirming free from claw and teeth. And so it claws, nails digging into soft tissue as the other's wails join the chorus. And so it bites, teeth finding the other's neck and tearing, through skin and flesh and bone and nerve, feeling the squirming, the twitching, the stillness. It screeches its victory and descends upon the other, ravenous, feeding, feasting, devouring. Dissatisfied, it rejoins to the twisting of the Tangle, clawing, biting, kicking, waiting for its next feast. Keep growing, and someday you will be a king... |

Inky spectres, barely visible and entirely unnoticed slipped out of their prison the day the Great Library crumbled into ruins on one side. These wisps of The Shade, trapped together no longer, gathered from fragments in tainted tomes and artifacts. All of them strange, many dangerous, secreted into a warded archive by one Jurgen Lightner. Warded no longer. Many appear to originate from The Ghostlight Ruins, others...well, no flight’s territory remains completely untouched by The Shade, does it? Those who built their nests far too close to that secret archive paid the ultimate price, though no one found a trace of them in the aftermath. Only their eggs remained, infected by the fear-drenched fragments of shade, some more than others, perhaps. Either way, this invasive presence transformed all of them to their very core, resulting in one of the Shadeborn. While these unlucky hatchlings are not contagious like those with a more shallow infection, they must feed it magic, and eventually their descent into madness is nearly assured. At that point, no matter how steadfast they were as guardians against The Shade, they may end up as agents spreading its fear and terror. |
