Lumen has spent a majority of his life feeling lonely, although he has never been alone. He's never truly felt a connection to anybody. Apathetic, some may be so daring to say. But not truly, no. A majority of his life he has spent yearning, dreaming of a love that he never thought he would have. But he would hold onto the fantasy. The hope that one day a dragon might sweep him off his feet, and give him an everlasting love and a fulfilling life. It's a self-indulgent fantasy. He knew all too well that long-term relationships were hard to come by. After all, feelings change over time. Love is a fleeting thing. And so he kept those fantasies to himself and decided he would rather not pursue relationships. All they would leave him with was heartbreak, in the end. What was the point?

Or at least, that's what he thought. He knew he was something of a hopeless romantic, but he felt a strong pull to Amais that he couldn't shake off. Amais, the gaoler that works at the same orphanage that Lumen does. The more he tried to resist his feelings, the more he tried to avoid him, the stronger his feelings became. At first he tried to play it off as being an aesthetic attraction; after all, Amais is undoubtedly a beautiful dragon. "I just want to get a better look is all," he thought. But the more glances he would take, the stronger the urge to grow closer to him became. "I shouldn't think like this. It's hopeless anyway," he told himself. But sure enough, with time, his feelings were reciprocated.

As they continued to work together in the orphanage, their shifts overlapping with each other, their feelings only continued to grow over the years. Working with children and younger hatchlings was the perfect environment to show your softer, more caring side. After the 10th anniversary of their relationship, followed by officially deciding to become mates, Lumen couldn't help but wonder if this love will be the everlasting one he had always dreamed of, and if it is, would they ever raise a hatchling together?

Lumen has always been the sensitive, caring type. Although, he does have a tendency to be clumsy and even forgetful at times. After all, taking care of a houseful of children for a living is a lot to keep up with. People don't understand how he could have so much patience with all of them, but what can he say? He loves what he does. Not to mention that he thinks it's interesting to see the thought processes of these young dragons; so quick to change their minds all the time, but yet so sure in all of the decisions that they make. He sometimes wished that life were as simple as the hatchlings thought it was.

Lumen, being only in his early 30s, is not that old himself. He is aware that even he is still leaning and growing with each passing day, sometimes along with the hatchlings and children within the orphanage. Though, Lumen can't help but be a little sad whenever one of the children get adopted. He knows that they're going to good homes, with Icabella in charge and her intensive background checks he knows that only the most responsible are eligible to adopt, but it pains him to see the other children have to adjust to their friends not being around anymore. Though, one of Lumen's dreams was that one day he'd be able to adopt a hatchling to raise with Amais. And finally, this dream came true when Jesse was born.

Lumen's one overarching worry was if their hatchling would feel lonely or unloved; just as he felt growing up. He could see it happening, after all, he devotes much of his day to the orphanage and taking care of all of the hatchlings and children. Before Jesse came along, he often wondered what his options for the future would be, or how he'd know if he's making the right decision. But all of those thoughts washed away when Jesse opened her eyes for the first time and cooed at him.

It was then that he understood what he wanted for his future.
