---Kasho---
--Lord of the Yearning Waters--

Kasho is a young ruler, but his reign has already been eventful.

His parents were benevolent and well-liked rulers, but sadly, they were taken in an accident well before their time. This left Kasho, their only son, to follow in their footsteps as the clan’s leader. He was young, but he accepted the mantle without hesitation.
Despite his youth, he already had the face of a leader. His clan trusted him deeply. Even in his earliest days, he was confident and strong. That power was underlined by a certain gentleness that made him approachable. That alone was a welcome departure from his parents, who were well-liked and well-respected, but their loftiness made them intimidating to their subjects. Kasho was never like that, though. He played with commoners' hatchlings as a child and grew up empathizing with them.

He always understood the differences between himself and the commoners, but he knew their world well enough that he could relate to them when it mattered. He became skilled at seeing matters of governance from both angles, and therefore became known as a champion of compromise and a friend of the commoners.
His subjects adored him for his boldness and cool confidence, but Kasho wore a mask. He struggled with insecurities within his own mind. While others often forgot just how young he was, he was keenly aware of his own inexperience. He struggled with indecision. He labored over the smallest details, always concerned that one of his celebrated decisions might be the wrong one.

One day, not too long after the uncertain young king began his reign, a wandering dragon emerged from the forest. Kasho was quick to welcome the pearlcatcher Felara into his clan, and she soon became a favorite among his subjects.

"...Kasho would spend hours speaking with Felara..."

Felara was a wise but eccentric creature who'd been raised in the wilderness, far from what would be called dragon civilization. She was wise and thoughtful, with a charming habit of speaking in rhyme. Kasho was quickly drawn to her wisdom, and the pair became fast friends.

Kasho would spend hours speaking with Felara. She seemed to know his soul in a way that eased his burdens. Her wisdom made her an excellent adviser, and her non-judgmental nature made her an indispensable friend. Kasho soon made her his official adviser and came to trust her greatly.

Some in the clan were puzzled, since their breeds had a natural wariness of one another. Others found it distasteful that the king bonded so quickly and so easily to an outsider. There were some more unsavory rumors as well, but Kasho was content to ignore them. He bonded with Felara because they'd formed a special connection together, and he trusted her words because her wisdom never led him astray.

Some complained that she became too influential, but Kasho knew that Felara understood her place. She was not trying to manipulate him and rule from the shadows. She was simply a wise wanderer with a noble soul, and Kasho knew that he needed someone like her at this side.

He repaid her by helping her unlock the secrets of her pearl. It contained powerful magic, as perhaps all pearlcatchers' pearls do, but it seemed that she was special in some way. Kasho worked with her late into the night, helping her discover her talents of prophecy. It was an exciting time, especially since the clan was in sore need of an oracle. Sadly, Felara's first test was not a pleasant one.

One evening, she woke Kasho to warn him that something was wrong. A vision warned her that the waters had become foul, and that a beloved clan mate was in danger. Though Kasho heeded the warning, he could not find anything wrong with the clan. He could not know that contaminated water had already flowed through the heart of the clan, or that Sidonia was already dreaming of the plaguebringer.

-"...he realized... she was gone..."-

The vision had come too late to save her corruption, but she had not yet gone. At a glance, everything seemed in order. Kasho and Felara were both puzzled by this seemingly misplaced vision, and while Kasho remained alert, he had no choice but to disregard it for the time being. Shortly after, Felara left on a personal quest, trekking out into the wilderness she'd been raised in. She assured Kasho that she would return. He was sad to see her go, but he was confident in her return.

While she was gone, Sidonia disappeared. It was the first tragedy during his reign as king, and it caused the clan great worry. She'd left an abandoned nest, which seemed so very unlike her. The eggs were lost, much to the parents' grief, and there were some calls to see Sidonia held accountable. Kasho didn't agree, though. He assumed that only one thing could tear the devoted hearthtender away from her nest. Something must have happened to her.

They searched for her, but she could not be found. In time, she was assumed dead. Some assumed Felara dead as well, since she didn't return from her sojourn for quite some time. Kasho knew better, though. While he was uncertain of Sidonia's fate, he was utterly confident that Felara would return to him.

Sidonia returned first.

One evening, she slithered back into the clan and poisoned his food. The next day, before it's effects grasped him, she challenged him to a battle for clan leadership. He was reluctant to accept. He would tell that something was wrong with her - her eyes glimmered with nascent evil. The air was tense as Kasho stood before her, trying his best to calm her with words, trying to reach out to their former friend. But she was gone. He realized before any of the others, simple from staring into her eyes. She was gone.

"...he is strong... so are his subjects..."

The battle went poorly. He should have had the upper hand, but her time in the scarred wastelands had made her strong. Not only that, but the poison she slipped into his food soon took effect, paralyzing him at a crucial moment. She struck him down and exiled him. Kasho was convinced that she only spared him so he would live in shame. So he was forced to the fringes, forced to watch as she tyrannized the clan that he loved, and feeling utterly hopeless and lost. He had failed.

He languished on the outskirts for only a short time before Felara returned. She came back, donning thew skull of a wildwood owl that had raised her and carrying a few more prophecies in her mind, one of which had brought her back. She'd sensed that something was wrong and that her friend needed her, and she was right. She found Kasho wallowing in a despair that only she could pull him from. She soothed him and delicately reminded him that his own pride was not the precious thing at stake here - it was the lives and happiness of their clan.

Convinced that something must be done, Kasho returned. He returned with a greater sense of duty and confidence than he had before. Emotions that he'd falsified so long in an effort to seem brave came naturally now. Empowered by the encouragement of his friend and the love of his people, he raised a rebellion against Sidonia and cast her out. He reclaimed his leadership, now stronger and more beloved than ever, and Felara returned to his side as his chief sage and advisor.

Today, Kasho is a calmer and wiser king than before, but he has never lost his sense of devotion. He loves his clan mates, and that love extends to every single creature that resides in the Yearning Waters. Even Sidonia, to a degree. He mourns her loss, and he wishes that salvation may be possible for her one day.

Unlike the old Kasho, however, the new Kasho realizes that sometimes, salvation is not possible. He will not compromise the safety of the many to entertain a dim hope for a single lost soul. But he still mourns her.

Things are peaceful now, at least for the most part. Kasho keeps a watchful eye over his clan, concerning himself with their safety and happiness above all else. He knows that evil lurks on their borders, some of which came from within their own borders, but he doesn't let it frighten him anymore.

He is strong. So are his subjects. They will rise to meet any challenge that may stand against them, no matter how great or small it may be.
