I am stopped and surrounded by ice.

Cold and unemotional, Californian is far from the most approachable of dragons. She prefers to keep to herself, and when she does interact with others she usually does so in a manner devoid of feeling. Her mannerisms and lack of emotion make her seem especially mysterious, and this is only compounded by her refusal to discuss her past with anyone. Other dragons sometimes speculate about her story, but Californian has no intention of telling anyone the truth; after all, her birth clan shunned her over what happened, so why should she tell anyone else? Who would be willing to accept a dragon who watched an avalanche sweep a group of travelers off a cliff and yet did nothing to help?

For years, she's tried to justify her inaction. There was nothing she could have done, she tells herself, and there's a grain of truth in that statement; helping those travelers would have endangered her own life, and there was nothing a single small-sized dragon could have possibly done to save everyone. Besides, she did warn them. She'd seen them earlier as they crossed into her clan's territory, and she'd tried to warn them about the risk of avalanches in the area. The group's leader had only snapped at her, and so when she saw them again some time later, from a distance this time, she made no effort to approach, even when the snow began to sweep them away. Her clanmates shunned her as a result, and in response Californian hardened her heart, severing her emotions so as not to let them hurt her. Her past is behind her now, and aside from the occasional reminder she's completely rid herself of any traces of her old life.

...So why does that striped guardian seem to find her so familiar-looking?
