In one way, she is a mark of her mother’s success: a strong heir, should her Court need one. In most other ways, she shows just how futile even the most extensive planning can be. Tiraiah resists the unchanging nature of her mother’s Court, delighting in making Solektra’s stony facade crack. She is uniquely suited to, after all. Her power lies in weathering, in all of the processes that force change into the earth: she can control plants to send their roots splintering through stone, breathe frost to crack rocks under the strain of the cold, weep a flood of tears that dissolves the earth away. But despite all this turmoil, she remains inextricably tied to the Earth Court. Her power only works upon dirt and stone. Maybe, though, her birth was no disaster. Jarring her changes may be, but without them the Court would remain closed-off, unchanging. It’s through the cracks that new light can shine in. |
