Biography

Neith
The Weaver
Enthusiastic and social, Neith traces her origins directly back to the Dustcarve Dig. Her first memories, of being awoken from the stone into a strange chamber carved by the Earthshaker himself. Caught between an intense curiosity to explore, and a desire to speak with the excitable dragons that she and her compatriots were meeting for the first time, the as yet unnamed dragon found herself wandering through the passages that made up the excavation; Greeting the new dragons that she met along the way with good cheer and a great number of questions along the way.

It was like this that she found an unusually shaped object that she had never seen before, resting in amongst some supplies that had been hastily shoved to the side in the wake of the excavators new and exciting discovery. Oval in shape, murky in colour, and pulsing with a strange blue-purple glow, at first she took the object to be some kind of unusual gemstone, one that had been uncovered during the dig and then set aside when the true nature of the Earthshakers work became apparent.

On closer inspection of the unusual object, she realised to some startlement that there appeared to be some kind of liquid inside the gem and that when she moved it closer to her face to inspect it further, that there seemed to be something moving inside. Almost dropping her find in shock, her grip on the gem was only saved by the quick thinking of the dragon standing nearby, who had been watching her investigations with some curiosity.

Thanking the dragon for his help, the still unnamed dragon soon discovered that the stranger, named Gnarr, had been working on the excavation as a sort of independant consultant for mechanical matters, and at the apparent conclusion of the dig, had decided to head back towards his workstation to check on his equipment and to pass word of the discovery on to his clan's network.

The unnamed dragon, on realising that she had found a willing recipient for many of her questions, soon began peppering him for answers regarding her discovery, "Whatever kind of gem is this?" "How does it glow?" "What kind of creature is living inside it?" and was undeniably taken aback to discover that what she was holding was not a gem, but an egg, and one attuned to the Shadow at that.

On realising that her gem was in fact an egg, the dragon immidiately wanted to know to whom it belonged; though she had been enamoured with the idea of a treasure of her own, she didn't want one of her first acts on Sorneith to be one of hatchlingnapping, and it was with some dismay that it seemed that this was a question for which Gnarr seemed to have no answer. Cheerily informing her that as she had found it, it seemed the egg must be hers, and that such a finders-keepers attitude to egg finding was common, or at least common within his own clan.

Suddenly faced with the prospect of not only facing this new and unknown world not only on her own but also with the responsibility of raising a hatchling, the dragon was overcome with something she'd never experienced before, what she'd later come to recognise as fear. She didn't even know where to start in finding a name yet, let alone in knowing where to start in looking after a hatchling!

Fortunately, in this Gnarr seemed to have some answers that suited the both of them. If the lack of a name was a problem, and he didn't see that it had to be, his own clan being nameless, then he could help her think of something. If it was the unexpected onset of solo parenthood, then he didn't see the problem in her coming to stay with his clan for a while, at least until the hatchling was at an age where it could fend for itself.

Relieved, the unnamed dragon was happy to accept Gnarr's assitance in both matters; and so it was that there, sitting in the dark surrounded by a collection of abandoned supplies, the scent of mechanical oil and an egg cradled between her paws, the dragons name came to be Neith, after Sorneith, the world that she had been so keen to explore, and that Neith herself came to be with the Nameless Clan.

Though originally intending to stay only as long as her foundling needed, she was quickly swept up in the rythms of the clan's day-to-day life, finding a warm and welcoming home within the caverns of the lair and eventually realising that she could imagine no other life for herself, or for her foundling, now called Nim, than one that had the Nameless clan waiting at the end of any of her adventures.

Since finding her way to the Nameless, Neith has been a constant and cheery prescence amongst its members. Despite some amongst them finding her constant cheer exhausting, everyone appreciates the work that she does for the clan; work that comes in all kinds of different forms.

This work came about soon after coming to the clan.

One evening, she found her way into one of Shingle's workspaces and was immediately fascinated by the way he could create such intricate patterns out of such thin threads. While Shingle guards his trade secrets jealously, the way the cantankerous, hot-tempered dragon would focus in on his work and patiently tease the threads together was inspiring for Neith and provided the incentive for her first forays into weaving.

Nowadays, years later, Neith has become a master of her craft, able to weave intricate tapestries, images and messages out of the thinest of threads. Her stall, located within the Colonnades of Antiquity, has a small but dedicated clientel and is known for keeping odd hours; often being closed for months at a time so that Neith can travel the continent. Safe in the security that she will always have a home to come back to, no matter how far she goes.
