Sphinx was created by the Earthshaker as a Dormant Obelisk Statue. When she emerged from the stone, she knew instinctively she was assigned to seek out and protect the Cloud Village.

Sphinx is a very secretive dragon, to say the least. She keeps most of her feelings and memories a secret, and due to this, her colony doesn’t exactly know where she came from. Of course, she was one of the original obelisks- unearthed as the Dustcarve Dig went on. As soon as she was awake and fully conscious, she had a strange sense of determination to seek out and protect the Wanderers. But she does not talk about it to others.

She spends most of her time motionlessly standing guard over the colony, something that comes easy to her since she was once a statue. In fact, she is sometimes mistaken for a statue by visitors and newcomers. During the nighttime, she uses candles that float near her in order to ensure sufficient visibility to guard the colony during the night.

Standing still she may resemble a statue, but when on the move, her movements are said to have more of a semblance to wisps of smoke. Making it easy for her to move unnoticed in most environments.

She has enlisted her great-granddaughter Miasma's help to watch over the Wanderers. She has left her son, Simba, and his pride in charge of protecting the Cloud Village.
