Memphis

Clan leader || Mother || Writer

The progenitor to the Arctice Clan currently located at the Cloudscape Crags in the Southern Icefield. A clan leader first, Memphis always puts the well-being of her clan mates first, before attending to herself. She was a mother to Renee, but since has let her nest stay barren in order to better take care of her duties to the clan, and to the Icewarden. On her down time, Memphis likes to sit alone and write about almost anything. She takes the time to reflect on her life, and to reaffirm her dedication to the Icewarden.

Old friend, I hope you are doing well.

Where do I begin? Well, I guess the beginning would be best...

One of my first memories of my life was the shockingly cold waters around the Southern Icefields. I have no memory of my childhood, and no memories of how I ended up in the water in the first place. But when I looked above, I saw sunlight glowing through sheets of ice; I was trapped under water. I tried ramming the ice, hoping to break through. The ice held firm and immovable, and my hopes were fading fast. My body started to numb, and with the numbness came resignation. Until...

You're not serious, are you? a voice ridiculed me from out of the depths of the ocean. You haven't found your charge yet, you can't just give up!

I remembered opening my eyes and seeing darkness. The voice sounded like it came from all directions. Is this what death feels like? I had wondered.

Hey! You're not dead yet! But you're going to be soon if you don't start swimming!

That voice again. It was oddly reassuring, to have a disembodied voice urging me on to save myself. With a beat of my powerful tail, I swam to the surface. This time, I gained speed before ramming the ice again with my shoulders.

The ice began to crack. I dove deeper into the abyss this time, my lungs burning for precious air by this point. It was either the ice or me that will fail.

Another ram, and my head was of the water, gasping in breath after breath of air. I latched onto the ice weakly, hoping to rest and reflecting on what I should do. Get out... keep walking... find the charge... get to the... the disembodied voice came back, but sounded farther and farther away with each word. I strained to catch the last little bit of information before all I heard was the freezing wind.

Following the Voice's instructions, I left the place that would've been my grave and headed toward some of the more mountainous parts of the Southern Icefield. I noticed that I was getting tired but the sun was still relatively high in the sky. I decided it was best to find a safe location to rest and figure out the rest later.

I woke up to a small Fae curled up next to my tail. He was a sickly, mottled green thing with grey spots all over his body. My heart skipped a beat when I saw him lying there; it was as though something deep inside me had awakened and I understood at that moment that this small Fae was my charge.

I then decided that this place was a good, safe location to nest. Our first nest had one egg, and she had been a beautiful Guardian, worthy of my lineage. We were still a small clan by then, a gaggle of strange dragons sharing the same living space, banded together for survival in the harshest place on Sornieth. My daughter's name was Renee, and she was fitting for the name bestowed upon her. She went out to help the clan forage and never came back. I sincerely believe that the Icewarden saw in her the potential, and thus, received her into his care, to be one of his many worshippers.
