Biography

Caltain
Doting partner
NboNcOy.png
Caltain's arrival seemed to happen in the blink of an eye, but the powerful obelisk carved out a permanent place for himself in the clan instantly. He wasn't here for the rest of them, he wasn't here for power or his deity, no conflict prompted him to venture to their clan, no sordid past. Only Her. Aragona, the proud matriarch of the clan, a dragon who had lost both her children and her mate, who had thrown herself into deity worship and had nothing for herself. He came for her, and she lives for him.
Being Aragona's charge clearly has its advantages, and Caltain has always seemed perfectly happy and content at the guardian's side, though he exhibits some worrying personality traits, and there are murmurings that he would make a perfect evil mastermind were he to put himself to the task. (Un)surprisingly, he does not.

Hatched near the forbidden portal, Caltain possesses a dizzying array of arcanic power, including telekenisis and teleportation. He is a dragon, but carries undeniable vampiric traits, however his 'food' of choice is not blood but magic, allowing him to feed off any magical environment or person. He has stated on multiple occasions that Aragona's power is the most delectable and pure magic he has ever tasted, and she is happy to relinquish a part of her power to feed him. He doesn't need much. Although he rarely fights, it's clear that his magical power would devastate any opponent, and even the most wary of the clan are glad to have him on their side. Still, even though his devotion to their beloved matriarch is clear, some cannot help but distrust the imposing obelisk, his callous attitude and varying demeanor putting them on edge. He holds a fairly strong connection to his deity, as he sees the Arcanist as the source of all chaos and chaotic magic, the source of his own power. While this seems true, there's no denying Caltain also possesses a certain degree of 'otherness', perhaps due to the close proximity with the forbidden portal when he was younger.

Able to adapt to any environment, Caltain has developed wicked survival skills, though he does not dislike luxury, and seems perfectly happy with the relatively simple life he lives with Aragona. He is one of the first to leap to defend the clan territory if threatened, as he knows how important it is to his mate. He finds it difficult to forge meaningful connections with dragons other than Aragona, but he can at least be counted on the look out for their safety, as he understands what they mean to her and therefore sees their continued safety as a facet of her continued happiness, making it precious to him. His colors are bright and threatening, his belly and wings a bright orange reminiscent of heated flames while his scleras are darkened, enhancing the wicked magenta of his eyes. His voice is deep and laced with power, echoing slightly especially when he uses magic, but compelling all the same. He is, without a doubt, gorgeous.

A very obsessive dragon, Caltain's main hyper fixation is of course his mate Aragona, but he is the sort to obsess over certain other things to a worrying degree, and he loves a good mystery as a challenge to put his sharp wit to the test. He's a very intense individual, and never does things half-heartedly, always throwing himself at any situation with full vigor. He can be seen as somewhat unstable in that respect, and he is quick to grasp for the extreme but Aragona acts as an anchor of sorts and is perfectly adept at keeping him in check. His strange magical aura is another point of worry for some, the wildclaw Keiji in particular is unnerved by him. Keiji in fact 'saw' him coming, but in the sense that he glimpsed a blank space approaching the clan, bustling with power and yet hidden from his eyes. To this day, Keiji is unable to see Caltain with anything other than his physical eyes, something that has proven quite unsettling for him. Caltain won't say it, but he's clearly amused by the wildclaw's distress at being unable to rely on his foresight when it comes to him.

Caltain has exhibited violent tendencies as well, but due to the reassurances of their matriarch a sort of tender trust has emerged between him and his new clanmembers, at least they are mostly convinced he isn't going to slaughter anyone in their sleep. That would upset Aragona, of course. Aragona and Caltain are pulled to eachother by an almost tangible force, and always seem perfectly attuned to eachother's emotions and actions. Caltain has surprised everyone by supporting Aragona completely in all endeavors, never trying to grab power or influence for himself but seeming content to stand on the sidelines, something that has further ingratiated him with the clan, especially Aragona's adopted daughter Dilara.

He isn't 'soft' by any means, but his priorities clearly set Aragona on a pedestal so high nothing else could come close, so the fact that he may be lightly insane can be disregarded safely considering the fact that he is also extremely smart, making him all the more dangerous but also unlikely to endanger anyone in the clan directly or indirectly, knowing Aragona's love for them. He is extremely possessive over the guardian, something that goes not unnoticed, though she clearly loves it. He has been assumed a servant of the shade in the past, something that upsets him to the degree of flying into a murderous rage. He likes to eat raw steak.

His personality can be partially described as a sort of lightly cruel apathy towards everything but Aragona, though he is fierce and supportive whenever it comes to her. He is easily amused and unsurprisingly gets along well with the mysterious wildclaw Hora, most likely the only dragon in the clan able to hold her own against him. He appreciates dark humor, and frequents the wildclaw settlement often, as he holds admiration towards most of its inhabitants with the exception of Keiji, who he has always regarded with a cold air. He calls Aragona queen. She has told him she isn't one but he wont be dissuaded, because to him that's what she is. Fit for a crown, fit to rule the world. If either of them had higher ambitions surely the whole of Sornieth would burn. He is very good at killing things and maybe even enjoys it but in a tasteful way. His sense of justice is strong, if slightly perverse. He doesn't seem all that sadistic outside of extreme situations, and has never actually harmed anyone in the clan, though he has gruesomely killed any outsiders he deems a threat to Aragona. not the clan, her. It's clear she appealed to him to try to make more of an effort with their clanmates, and those who can get over their fear of him, as he dislikes cowards, have found him to be decent companionship.

It's no secret he would let everything else burn in a heartbeat for Aragona.

After the initial shock of his arrival, other dragons actually come to him for advice a lot more than expected, and even more unexpectedly he actually seems willing to help. The reason being that he actually gives good advice. Most of the time anyway, though it's always best to take at least half of what he says with a hefty grain of salt, his intelligence does allow him to come up with viable solutions most of the time, if one can unravel his words.
