Nereus (45) The Copper Needle As a young man, Nereus sailed the sea with his pirate sister Ianna. Under her care, he learned the ins and outs of thievery, lying, manipulation, and other such devious skills. It wasn't until he found himself in Myste did the skills truly come in handy. While living in the city, he often found himself in sketchy bars filled with odd and menacing characters. On one such visit, he was approached by a cloaked individual, who claimed they could transform his boring life into one of excitement and wonder. He was led down a dark alley and beckoned down to a suspicious club. He had never been there before, but he wish he had found it earlier. It was a den of sin with every vice available to consume. The young man was then brought before a masked figure, clearly the leader, and given a choice: Join us or die. Not knowing the fate that awaited him, he joined without any resistance. The tasks were simple at first, deliver this package to this person, or go fetch these items. After a month or two of this, things escalated. He was told to recruit those down on their luck and to bring them to the Mask of Myste. He was unsure at first, but, with enough convincing, he soon became a pied pipper to the desolate rats of the city. The skills he was taught as a youngster were finally paying off. He soon was granted his own underlings and began to carve out his own nook of the city. Ridan was easily the most important of his little band. His powers of persuasion were the best the world around and he made quick work of weak minds. Kona, the muscle. Her wolf-like qualities keep the underlings in line and she wasn't afraid to take out the trash. And finally: Miss Drusilla. As beautiful as she was deadly, her domain was the woman's poor house. She bought in those hoping to make a quick buck, under whatever means necessary. This group tore through the city and soon became a name nobody dared whisper. They were dubbed the Hidden Blade by those who spoke of them. Although, the few who did often disappeared. All was fine until that one dumb mistake. Nereus was out on an evening stroll, reliving in his power. He turned the corner and found himself face to face with a rival gang leader: he had known. Before he realized what was happening, he was jumped by the king's soldiers. It took a few years but he was finally free of his frozen cell and he even befriend royalty in the process. Nowadays, he serves as treasurer for His Royal Highness, King Beloved. Everything from deciding the military budget to finding the best gold mine is his territory. He was even given the go-ahead to continue his business, as long as he avoided loose lips: other counties didn't need to know the chaos that ruled behind the capital walls. Alas, this means he is out of the castle often, and away from his dear king. Perhaps there is something stirring in the crime lord's heart...  |
