Biography
Illbloods - A Subspecies
- any modern breed
- any flight
The Illbloods are afflicted with a blood curse and/or bloodborne disease that can be contagious if another dragon ingests the Illblood's blood in any way. This affliction is cyclical in intensity, with peaks and troughs, but overall inflicts a severe hunger, heightened aggression, increased physical prowess, quickened healing, hypervigilance, and general feral demeanor.
Some Illbloods have successfully contained their affliction and are no longer contagious (though they are still affected themselves by the ravages of the curse). These are the Resistant. If an Illblood is a member of a normal dragon clan, they are almost always a Resistant.
Others have simply embraced the wanton abandon and physical superiority that the disease brings. These are the Indulgent, and they are dangerously contagious, able to pass the affliction through saliva if they bite another dragon.
This affliction can pass through to a dragon's hatchlings, though inheritance isn't certain unless both parents are affected. A normal Illblood poses no danger to nearby dragons unless their own blood is spilled, but superstition and legitimate fear keep most Illbloods wandering alone or in small groups of similarly outcast dragons.
