Biography
Name meaning: There are numerous theories about the origin of the phrase "grinning like a Cheshire Cat" in English history.
The first known appearance of the expression in literature is in the 18th century, in Francis Grose's A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, Second, Corrected and Enlarged Edition (1788), which contains the following entry: "Cheshire cat. He grins like a Cheshire cat; said of any one who shows his teeth and gums in laughing."
A possible origin of the phrase is one favoured by the people of Cheshire, a county in England which boasts numerous dairy farms; hence the cats grin because of the abundance of milk and cream.
Chesh came from the Star Wood Strand and she would have been content to stay there. After all, it had been much fun following lost travelers through the trees while they tried to make up their minds about which direction they were heading in. If the Queen of Hearts hadn't come along and piqued her curiosity with all that talk about a dance troupe, she might even still be there now.
She may appear as a Snapper, but most who happen across her suspect that there is something perhaps supernatural about her. When asked how it is she can fly, she points out that there are more ways to travel than by merely walking or flying. But then how is she moving through the air without her feet touching the ground? Well, just because one cannot see the method by which she is moving does not mean that there is nothing there. And as if that wasn't odd enough, she has a habit of de-materializing, lending far more credence to the theory that she is possibly some kind of trickster entity talking riddles around everyone.
