named in the ruins/by the sea, supposed to be a name to mean regrowth in-universe, while still symbolizing his fixation on cultivating other people's perception of him to protect himself AND his enjoyment in actually cultivating plants (which he uses in cooking)

- his parents were both corrupted by void magic while living by the Sea (got too close to a piece of the tidelord) and are visible not in good shape. a lot of their kids end up with fish parts but kaliakos thankfully missed out on that
- has the genetics for it tho and 2/3 kids are visibly fishy

- lived practically on his own out in the streets of the hewn city, begging his youth away.
- it likely would have escalated as he got older, but he was taken off the street at about 1-ish (so like. a teenager) and placed into state care before he started doing crimes
- CLAIMED to be tough to intimidate other dragons
- the inquisitors went 'okay yeah i don't think we're going to teach this kid anything' so they sent him to virulent so he could redirect this assumed aggression out the healthiest way possible - raiding and privateering




- kind of gravitated towards vilkyres when he joined, them both being outsiders
- and the full-throttle virulentian raiders were on a completely different level and pretty scary
- whereas vilkyres, even though he grew up a pirate, is shaky enough on the idea that he backs away from it
- so they both have an 'uncertain on the idea of violence' theme



- first noticed kovakyti because she'd always go to cavalry practice to watch
- he was really just teasing her when he started talking to her, telling her about all the cool stuff he got to do and see on raids
- then she started greeting them both at the docks, so she'd go drinking with them and stuff
- and (as they became aware of how miasma disapproved of both them and kovakyti raiding) then they started actually hanging out with her and teaching her better fighting techniques
- and then kaliakos was in way to deep (and starts getting mad if other dragons pick on her) annnnd they're smooching now

- kovakyti got knocked up and moved in with him and vilkyres
- just kinda. formed a polycule with vilkyres and their shared girlfriend

- skipped that season of raiding bc. family. and started volunteering in the kitchen
- allowing him to pivot to ship-cook when he went back
