Biography
"Quote" Brychan needed someone to keep up with him. Lights watched as he worked himself into a frenzy, squinting at the work at hand and dark circles under his eyes. He hadn’t slept for more than an hour every night on account of needing it finished before the orbit of the earth shifted his calculations, the stars all fell out of alignment, and he’d have to begin anew the next time this natural phenomenon occurred. Lights understood that sometimes work couldn’t wait for anyone, had her own projects to occupy her and had fallen into the same trap as him more than once. But Lights took the time to make sure they both took needed breaks met even beneath looming deadlines, delivering meals and making sure he didn’t die from starvation or dehydration or salmonella poisoning after he decided to experiment with new strains of bacteria. Still, sometimes Brychan didn’t know when to stop for his own good. And as she stood in the doorway, watching as he worked meticulously on yet another project, Lights decided to step in. One glance at the arrays in front of him, the diaphragms sketched on paper, and Lights said, “That’s not time sensitive.” “It’s not,” Brychan agreed, never once taking his eyes off his work. “Mm,” Lights said noncommittally. “Then come on. You need to see the sun more.” “I can see the sun from here.” Lights raised a brow. Really? But a glance closer, the screens blinking on and off, and she scoffed. “Seeing it projected on a monitor doesn’t count.” But when even that failed to budge him, Lights rolled her eyes and switched tactics. Quieter, plaintively, she asked, “For me? Please?” And like a magic spell, it always worked. “Okay,” Brychan said, and she grinned. Brychan needed someone to keep up with him. Someone who could follow all his complex mathematical equations and the flight of his thoughts. To understand his process just a few sentences or less, to catch his train of thought before it flirted away. He needed someone to lean against as much as she leaned against him. To push them both to their best abilities, and always remember to bring them back to earth afterwards. Give and take, a balance they struck after years together, and while others might think their relationship was loveless, both workaholics and both prone to insomnia, well, that was on them. Lights knew where she stood with him, and so did Brychan. And that was all that really mattered.
