Thorium, the dragon reaching for godhood no matter the sacrifices. She is commonly called The Storm due to the uncaring and cruel ways she furthers her research. The only thing Thorium seems to care about is her research, and Mayor. A Guardian with nothing to guard. The emptiness she filled with research and work. She dug out the mesa that would become her lair and dug out the tunnels in the canyon wall. Work became everything. Her instincts were calling her to find purpose and that purpose was deep in the mesa. Day in and day out she would dig. Gathering minerals and ore for her ambitious projects. She would dig until night came then return to her lab and melt, mold and build. Grafting metals onto herself in an attempt to get closer to the Stormcatcher. She knew she could not become a god but maybe she could get close. When she dug deeper, she came upon a rocky shell. It was perfectly round and the rock seemed to twist and move. It was unlike anything she had ever seen. Out of the twisting and swirling shapes came a dragon. It told her to turn back. That there was an evil like no other inside. That it's powers weren't understood and should never be unleashed again. In that moment Thorium understood what had been calling her. Not her instincts but this. Whatever it was, was beckoning her. The dragon pleaded with her to leave but Thorium clawed her way into the rock dragging the dragon out and crushing it. It ran in fear for its life as she got to digging once more. It was stronger than normal rock, its was a mixture of magic she never had seen and the earth's energy itself. She left and continued to gather materials to build herself better, stronger. If she could get in there, godhood could be steps away. Soon she just stopped sleeping. Her assistant, a small Fae worried over he but he couldn't understand. She would snag wandering dragons from the canyon and test her soon to be modifications on them. Perfecting them before adding them to herself. Her assist became just one more test subject as her research continued. Each time she felt she passed another milestone she would return to the rocky shell attempting to tear through it. striking it with Lightning, dosing it in chemicals, testing tools to chip into its interior. Then her work paid off. Lightning crashing into the stone cracking and breaking the exterior. Her claws cover in blood. Her mind hardly lucid as she forgot what sleep was. There was just this shell and her divinity on the other side. As she stumbled into the darkness she could make out the bones and bodies of dragons and a pit that they surrounded. She assumed them dead until one raised its head. As more of the dragons started to move a large black mass rose from the pit. It was larger than any imperial Thorium has seen and looked nothing like one. It was covered in tendrils, eyes that blinked off rhythm or not at all, mouths that gnashed at nothing, and seemed to reach out to her with endless arms. She couldn't stop her body from moving forward. She would be devoured. Instead, it surrounded her. Staring her down before a deep chuckle arose. No voice left it but she could feel it deep in her brain. 'Gratutides little godling' echoed in her mind as it returned to its hole. Like a spell was broken she could move her body again and she fled back to her lab. She understood the warning now but she was too proud to admit she may of made a mistake. The next day she walk into her lab to find a Pink coatl prancing around her new assistant, Starlet or something. The new coatl zeroed in on Thorium as she walked in and trotted over. She was about to speak but Thorium cut her off. She told the coatl to leave. That it was trespassing and if it didn't want to end up demantled, it should disembark. Instead of cowering it looked at her in wonder and then excitedly explain that this lab was its now and that Thorium was its now. That it was excited Thorium heard its bid for her life and freed it. That it would repay its possession's good work and its expected Thorium's loyalty or destruction. Thorium began to mock the coatl but once she heard 'Yield' deep in her mind she went still. The coatl was not intimidated. It just gazed up at her with a smile and then she started to notice the tendrils around its limbs and wings. Its struggle to keep its form as its body seemed to ripple and bulge at times. It was at that moment she knew she should of listened to the dragon in the rock and began to understand what she unleashed from the deep. |
