From a young age, Berserker had always been alone. She was abandoned at birth by her Wildclaw mother and father, left at the border between Dragonhome and the Scarred Wasteland. She had been born there, and subsequently infected by the festering illnesses that plagued the muddy, writhing ground. Her parents were disgusted, and left her there to die.

She did not, however, die. She was found by a pair of Coatls, who were not native to the Wasteland but had been forced to reside there anyways, due to their own contagion. One of them had been touched by the Shade, one of its lingering fragments taking residence inside of her body. She and her wife had been forced to flee their original home - said home was never disclosed to Berserker, by virtue of their banishment. They were never to speak of where they'd come from, and Berserker had never thought to ask.

As life continued for the Wildclaw, she began to notice changes occur to her own body, as well as the bodies of both her mothers. While her mothers began to grow sickly, darken in colour, and their bodies began to change into crooked contortions of their former selves, black splotches of sick and plague were sprouting all over Berserker's body, spreading slowly and seeping deep below her once-pink skin. Her eyes darkened and grew fierce, and she hid her body in robes, disguising the illness coursing through her veins.

Soon, her parents grew grotesque, morphing into shade-infected monsters. Always a survivor, she fled, desperately holding onto the hope that she could save both herself and her parents.
To do this, she left for Starfall Isles, another territory that bordered her adopted homeland. It was here she met Lucilius, an experienced mage and powerful spellcaster, who told her he could freeze the sickness taking over her. With no other options, she accepted his help, albeit with much hesitation.

Being led into his small house, she took note of the shelves full of potions, gems, and various knick-knacks, along with locked chests and boxes labelled "danger" and "caution." Her feelings of unease only grew as he sat her down and began throwing seemingly random objects into the hungry, bubbling cauldron at the center of the room. Disturbingly, it seemed to have a face.

Before long, he pulled out a vial, filled to the brim with a glowing pink liquid that shimmered in the moonlight filtering through the window. He gave it to her, and told her to drink it.
She hesitated, and waited a long moment, before drinking the whole thing down in one swig. Almost instantly, the black splotches all over her body began to crystallize and shimmer, freezing in place. She no longer felt the ooze spreading through her body and jabbing at her insides. With a shaky sigh of relief and astonishment, she began to thank the towering Ridgeback with powerful earnest. Despite her mumbly way of speak, Lucilius understood exactly what she was saying.

After deciding her thanks had been sufficient, she asked him to come back with her to the Wasteland and save her mothers. She explained the situation, and it caused a deep, unsettling frown to spread across Lucilius's pointed face. He promised to try his best, but could not promise anything.

Taking two large pails of the mixture in the cauldron, the two of them headed back with haste. The plan was to splash them with the creation, and freeze the shade. Berserker was aware of the risks involved with this - she didn't know if her parents were still in there somewhere - but she figured she had to try. She was a survivor, and always had been. Her parents had taught her to be.

Soon they reached them, and it came time to test the theory. With a heave and several exasperated gasps, the potion was splashed onto both of the Coatls, and they both freezed in place. Berserker held her breath, hope and despair mixing deep within her throat and bubbling to the surface as they began to crumble.
Slowly at first, and then quickly, her parents calcified and turned to dust in the rubble of the Wasteland. Devastated, Berserker ran off, hiding somewhere buried within the slimy pustules and melting flora.

Days, weeks passed, and she never left her hiding spot. She was content to waste away there, life beginning to feel meaningless after the passing of her only family. They had welcomed her in, raised her from birth where her parents refused to, and now they were gone. She had failed them.

Eventually, she was found, by Lucilius. He had looked everywhere he could think to find her, but she didn't know why. She was a failure, she did not deserve to be found. But here he was, finding her.

Coercion is a powerful tool among Ridgebacks, and was one he had learned very well. He managed to convince her to come out - though not without difficulty - and return with him to the Starfall Isles. She still felt miserable, and broken, but she found that it was slightly easier to bear with a shoulder to lean on. She had never learned that she could depend on other people, but it was nice, having someone there if she needed him.

Time passed by, and eventually, Berserker found she had an easier time breathing. She found she had an easier time getting through the day and communicating with her now partner, Lucilius. Life travelled slowly - it always had for her -, but she found herself adjusting to the pace. Allowing herself to slow down and take the time to enjoy the moment, no longer fending for her life and her dignity at all hours of the day. She was safe, here with Lucilius. Life is good.

Other Info:

Berserker, having been raised by Coatls, has a tenuous grasp on the Draconic language. She communicates primarily in grunts, moans, and low throaty sounds, imitating her adoptive Coatl parents. She is able to communicate with her husband through basic words and grunts in various pitches, and is slowly learning how to better get across what she wants to say.

Her bird - Conjuror - follows her around everywhere she goes. He acts as a guide and source of comfort for her, alerting her when he senses negative shifts in her mood and batting away other dragons when he knows she needs privacy. He is highly empathetic, and joined her side shortly after her parents passed away and she began living with Lucilius. He's adapted also to Lucilius's moods and behaviours, and is able to stay in-tune with both of them (though he primarily remains with Berserker). Berserker also has a Mith named Sascha, who was a gift from Lucilius - she doesn't get along with Conjuror all that well, but they're starting to bond, somewhat.
