Most Guardians' charges are other creatures. Nyx's is her research. Even as a hatchling Nyx was fascinated with darkness. A native of the Hewn City with an insatiable curiosity, she couldn’t resist such a mystery as the city’s enigmatic shadows. As she grew, the dragon heard stories about the darkness outside of her city, of the neighboring realm of shadows and of the mysterious Shade that looms over the world. Mystery after mystery presented itself to her, and her fascination with the dark transformed into something near obsession as she strove to explain its cause. Nyx has pursued every avenue of research in an attempt to explain and connect these different forms of darkness, which has taken her across the world and as far away as the Starfell Isles and the Pillar of the World. In her years of travel, Nyx has visited very nearly every region and subregion there is, and she’s pretty much seen it all: the good, the bad, the terrifying, the really weird, the “what is that thing and why is it humming and starting to shoot orbs of purple energy at me,” and everything in between. In her quest for knowledge, Nyx is willing to do pretty much anything to get the information she needs, although she’s never actually had to use such unscrupulous methods. Those rumors about the Nocturne eggs are slander and lies, and you shouldn’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. But just out of curiosity, who told you? It’s not important or anything, she’s just curious. You should tell her. For science. When she’s not travelling the world, Nyx presides over a massive library filled with a collection of scrolls, books, and artifacts. Over time, the lair has become home to a variety of scholars and researchers, and a few others as well. They all insist that there is no leader, that they’re all equal and are purely here to search for knowledge, but it’s an unspoken rule that Nyx is in charge. Although Nyx insists that this isn’t the case, a few of the clan’s dragons, who wish to remain anonymous, note that those who refuse to aid her research when necessary or whose interests conflict with Nyx’s own tend to “leave the lair in search of a greater purpose” awfully quickly. Not that that means anything. Obviously. |
