A Magician's Quarrel

As a young fae with a mad father, Garnet learned to be slightly more expressive then regular faes. His slight over expression meant that his mother didn't really enjoy him being in her garden with her. Though she was far too polite to say anything Garnet still picked up on it and found other ways to entertain himself, usually through the works of magic. Garnet was no master but anyone with eyes could see that he had talent. At first he only dabbled in simple show magic. Flying wisps of his element, controlling bubbles filled with mesmerizing purple smoke, the works. He loved the oos and ahhs of dragons he would preform for. Then he slowly worked his way into transformative magic. Helping dragons achieve their perfect look through scattering spells, gening spells, and breed spells. A snapper here, some shimmer there, Garnet dabbled in it all. For his talents he was offered a high ranking mage position in Asili's lair, assisting dragons in their modifications. That was until the incident happened. A young dragoness came in asking to be transformed into a spiral so she could better multitask for her science experiments. Garnet accepted of course and pulled out a scroll containing the spell. Only instead of transforming his client, he transformed himself. He immediately realized his mistake and scrambled for a scroll containing a fae transformation spell, only in his new spiral form he swirled around and knocked all of his scrolls over. He frantically searched for the two scrolls he needed and in his panic ruined all his organization. He decided to politely ask the dragoness to reschedule but he never did end up seeing her again. As a spiral his clientele shrank and shrank until barely any dragons came to see him anymore. He couldn't really blame them, he was to afraid to even attempt to transform himself back into a fae, if he couldn't trust himself why should his clients. Garnet spoke to Dain and Equinox about this and decided that Garnet should temporarily step from his position until they found a temporary replacement who could transform him back and help him with his work after the fact. In the mean time Garnet didn't really know what to do with himself. His spiral brain felt so chaotic compared to how he normally thought. He reached out to a few other spirals in the clan and even tried to help out in Mocha's Cafe for a while but nothing seemed to stick. Garnet once again found comfort in simple showman ship and used most of his time wandering in the woods and casting simple spells which he found were difficult to mess up even as a spiral. A few other clan members noticed his lifted mood while he was doing this and suggested he be sent on a few assignments to other clans to perform. It made him feel useful and wanted in the clan even if his job was much more simple then his previous responsibilities. On one fateful trip the spiral found he still hadn't mastered the ability to not twist and twirl in his sleep and woke up in knots tied around the most beautiful pearlcatcher he had ever seen, Ruby. When they both awoke she helped him untangle himself and reluctantly accepted to go on a date. Ruby had never been the most talkative and while she still isn't Garnet never fails to make her smile. After spending enough time with her Garnet realized that being a spiral wasn't so bad after all. If it lead him to Ruby and she could love him as he was, then it was worth it. When the clan found his semi-replacement he decided it would be best if she became his full replacement. The young dragoness showed immense talent and far less clumsiness then Garnet had ever had, even as a fae. So he stepped down as the clan's mage and declined the offer to be turned back into a fae. Instead he took on being Phora's part-time assistant and the clans magician where he is very happy. |
