-Born originally in Goldensparc, he doesn't actually have many memories of his time there. Not long after his birth, it became obvious that he was sick in a way their doctors could only treat, not cure. Plagued by pain and discomfort in his joints and chronic fatigue that prevented him from running around and playing the way other hatchlings did. His parents couldn't stand the stress of having a sickly child. Nihil was sent away to live with his grandmother, down in the Starwood Strand, away from his home. This never bothered him. Something in the mind changes dramatically once you remove the fear of death, especially when you're being forced to accept an early grave at such a young age. He was a rowdy child despite his condition, raised with care and an appreciation for the little things by his grandmother, and taught as much as possible about the culinary world in hopes he'd one day take over her ice cream and sorbet parlour. Which he did, obviously, when she inevitably passed. Took to it quite well. A bit too well, for some people's tastes (shouldn't you be upset by the death of someone who raised you?). But what did it matter? He was comfortable, happy, and a very well liked figure within town. Everyone knew Nihil, and how trustworthy of a guy he was, even if he was prone to a bit of joking around and mischief. Then... along came that odd artist, new to town with his eye already on Nihil. Now, he wasn't really the kind of guy he'd normally go for - he was some stuck up big city artist, after all. Far too clingy. Far too worriesome. But he was incredibly well-off, and very easy on the eyes. Being with him would help make however long he had left a little bit more comfortable. ..... It should have. It should have. There was an accident. He got worse. The doctors said his heart had started to give, and his body was failing. With no one else in his life, he was forced to stay with August to monitor his condition and help look after him. It's miserable. But at least it will be short. That's what he keeps telling himself. He's been telling himself that for far longer than he should have been. Something feels wrong. There's gaps in his memory, and August won't let him leave the house, won't let him talk to anyone. His body feels wrong. And those who have managed to sneak glimpses of him, skulking about their house at night, have agreed that they don't entirely believe this is the Nihil they remember...... but he has to be. Who else would he be?
He needs to get out of the house.
-Nihil is, as they say, just a guy on the surface. He greatly enjoys being in the company of other people, with more than enough to say on pretty much any topic and plenty of badly cracked jokes to go with, interested mostly in ordinary things and every-day life more than he is in magic and the likes, with a passion only for his dessert making. But beneath that he can be a little difficult and definitely plenty cunning. He made peace with the fact he'd die young at a very young age, and knows fine well how uncomfortable other people are about the topic of illness- he knows how to use that to his advantage to make people leave him alone, or conversely make them do things for him. He knows he can get away with only doing something if it actually benefits him in some way and so he does. He knows that with a sweet smile, kind words, and a good joke he can usually get along with almost anyone. Make them overlook him. "Oh that's just Nihil- he's very sick but he's a good guy, so play nice." This isn't to say he's a bad person, even if maybe he does struggle at times to empathize with other people, feel anything at all towards other people's losses, or guilt for the way he acts..... he cares about other people plenty and does genuinely like a good few to the point he'd help them even if it didn't benefit him. He's just mostly interested in making what few years he thinks he has left comfortable. And perhaps if he doesn't like you, he does find it far easier to justify being a bit cruel, but you'd have to really go out your way to be cruel first for him to do anything more than make fun of you and play annoying jokes before he'll start leaving glass in the toes of your shoes.
Though, lately... he hasn't been feeling like himself. He does things without knowing why, without thinking it through first. He's developed new habits without explanation or cause, and only occassionally seems capable of noticing that. It's like there's this prevailing emptiness to his actions, the words he says and the way he says them. Everything feels empty. It's almost like it's an act. A mere puppet going through the same motions Nihil once had. And Nihil is only aware of it on the edges of his mind - if it really truly is Nihil's mind we're dealing with in the first place. One can only hope SAR never decides his oddness is worth attention.
-Partnered with August, mostly because he's kind of stuck with him until his condition improves. Which it will, surely. Has to. And then he can leave.
