Biography

DANAUS
She/Her
Danaus Plexippus
One fascinating fact about the Monarch butterfly is that it is poisonous. Not to humans, but to predators such as frogs, grasshoppers, lizards, mice and birds.

Danaus knew well what she was. She was gold and stardust, she was luxury given form, she was what every dragon wanted to be. Other dragons held no weight in her mind, they were the same as the stone path she walked along every day, or the dirt the stone was embedded in. But there was one dragon that Danaus met, oh she was beautiful, like a crane dancing to melodic song. Danaus wanted her like a rare piece of jewelry, Danaus had her like a fine accessory to her own beauty, and Danaus lost her like a necklace that finally snapped after being worn for so long.

Standing before the mangled corpse screaming and yelling at the nervous deity, she felt her heart beat. In fascination? No, Danaus thought she was perfect now, she loved her.

Found in the farthest corner of Maladie Town's bustling marketplace was a writhing, green pustule of an egg. With disdain, the market guard Peppermint scooped the egg into her talons to deliver it to the nursery for abandoned eggs, where a few other eggs sit in a sticky lump together.
-
The egg began to writhe and pulse, and soon enough a lively red nocturne hatchling was pushing through and clawing at the egg membrane. The nursery guard quickly approached the egg to help the seemingly struggling hatchling from the membrane. Once free, the nocturne hatchling was squirming and fighting in the guards arms as they deliver the newborn to Dion, the towns overseer to decide this orphans fate. The sickly skydancer craned her neck, feathers shaking with each movement as she studied the orphan hatchling. Taking the nocturne into her talons, ignoring its fussy sounds, turns the hatchling over as if it was simply a toy. Soon, Dion's eyes landed on the beautiful orange, butterfly like patterning on the irritated nocturne's wings. Like a butterfly clad in metallic layered scales, Dion decided on a name, placing the hatchling back down.
"You are Danaus, child. A beautiful Monarch."
