Gruff, grumpy, cantakorous-these are all words frequently used to described Aula. He cares not: he has his own way of doing things that works for him. Besides, running a clan that's also your charge takes a lot of time, work and energy; social niceties are not top of this dragon's list of priorities.
As one of the clan founders, he naturally holds a position of power. His rules are strict but he is not unfair nor unkind. Those that know him well have the utmost respect for him and often seek his counsel. Only dragons he deems worthy are allowed join his clan, his charge, as he refuses to protect those who do not deserve it. When pushed by the council though, he will begrudgingly allow entry to all newcomers. These newbies had better be ware the first few weeks of their stay; Aula is watching and waiting for an excuse to march them in front of the council to say 'I told you so!'. Once their trial period is over, usually a month, Aula will accept them as part of his charge. He makes such a big deal over new clan members because he knows that a bigger clan is harder to protect, which means more stress for him. The council is always there for support and they do their best to alleviate the burden on Aula, even if he doesn't realise they do.
Constant grumpiness eventually takes its toll though, and Bonfire Nights are always a welcome relief for everyone. These are held on the last Sunday of every month, where the whole clan comes together after dark to sit around the fire, feast and have fun. All sorts of shenanigans go down at these parties so they're always highly anticipated. No one ever leaves Bonfire Night feeling worse than when they arrived. Aula's roaring laugh is infamous; it warms the hearts of those that hear it, especially those that know its rarity.
