Biography

The Clan King

With fire and fang.

After an uneventful Brightshine, Elkrekeodh has had little to distract him from signs of strange new dragons. He is restless and paranoid, collating all the sightings and rumors in effort to find out more.

*

The arrival of the Sandsurge and Thundercrack Carnevale have Elk on the edge of panic. The turbulent lands of Fire make it impossible to tell if his clan is being undermined. As such, he is determined to recruit a Sandsurge as soon as possible—though they seem generally loyal to the Stormcatcher, there are surely some looking for loyalties abroad, just like the ridgebacks and Flux.

Elkrekeodh is the founder of Cindercone Clan, the foremost of the leader's council, and one of their top-ranked fighters. A brilliant, paranoid, and barbaric leader, he fully lives by the brutal, direct ways of a wild mirror, without regard for niceties and as happy to settle clan disputes with a scuffle as with discussion. He is no tyrant, however, always ready to defend and guide his clan, and eager to see them as fit warriors in their own right.

The rules of the clan, as he sees them, are simple: take care of your own problems, provide materials for the clan or wares to sell, practice a craft, and know how to fight. Uphold these duties, and anyone who desires may find refuge in his clan. Delighted to be back in Fire at long last, he is nevertheless pondering taking over the Rogues' Camp's surviving mercenary operations, as he enjoyed both the fighting and the extra coin this brought in.

Beneath his wild exterior, Elkrekeodh is a dragon plagued with doubts, even now. Always wary for outside threats, he has missed two so far that came from within, as well as the less damaging schemes of other dragons. He is a father-figure to most of the clan, and a respected peer to the older members, if occasionally ribbed for his paranoia. He is particularly close partners with Hiirkaen, and finds Keaia and Terviskhar to be kindred spirits in their paranoia, survival instincts, and escape from Plague.

Craft
Elkrekeodh likes to work with metal, building powerful, fluid forms and effective, if unlovely, tools incorporating bone, wood and leather. He struggles to provide the proper tempering for edged weapons or hard, lightweight armor, but can make an effective blunter weapon or training-sword.

Physical description
Elkrekeodh is a very small, stocky mirror with broad, rounded wings. His dark hide is faintly striped and unusually matte for a mirror. His powerful elemental magic attracts ash and cinders along his ears and flanks in runic patterns, and gives him a lingering smoke. He has an efficient, canine gait and is a competent but unremarkable flyer. He is rarely still unless hunting, preferring to pace short circuits than stand in place. His scent is smoky and faintly bitter, like the remains of a pine fire. Despite being a top-ranked warrior, there are no scars on his hide.

Combat
Elkrekeodh is one of the clan's foremost warriors, and fights with an odd mix of magic and physical blows—still unwilling to commit to either path. He is fast and agile, darting in to harry and harass his foes and bounding away unscathed, and is a passable battlefield healer. He is, however, considering making a change—with all his experiences, he is coming aware of the threat that comes with committing to the wrong side.

Origin
Elkrekeodh hatched a wild mirror of the Abiding Boneyard. What drove him to leave the wandering packs and head to Fire he has not shared, beyond that he desired to learn metalworking. He accepted a progenitor contract with Flamecaller, and founded a clan in the shadow of a small cindercone at the border of Fire and Lightning.

Kin
Elkrekeodh's ancestry is unknown, as his progenitor-contract erased all record of his earlier life. Making guesses at it is a widespread clan game; the most widely-held theory is that one of his parents is a fae. There is, however, a persistent rumor that he is one of the many sons of the Black Mirror, a huge and perhaps mythical mirror the size of a guardian said to haunt the Abiding Boneyard. That this rumor is true does not quite explain its origin, particularly since it arose before the conspiracy theorist Explorer joined the clan.

Recently, Elkrekeodh has come unexpectedly into contact with one of his brothers, to both of their shock.

Elkrekeodh has sired several children of his own. The eldest two remain with the clan as inveterate trouble-makers, and their similar-looking younger sister has gone on to become a pirate in the Starfall Isles; the rest are Exalted to Lightweaver and Shadowbinder, or range wild in the fringes of Cindercone's territory. While rarely given to displays of affection, Elkrekeodh cares deeply for his children, and has gone so far as to seek communion with his Exalted children during their respective deity's festivals despite the uneasy relationship the mothers of Light and Shadow have to Fire.

Familiar
Another unlooked-for boon in the Return: Elkrekeodh's long-lost first familiar returned, looking suitably regal and ashy and accompanied by a doe of his own kind named Cinderthorn. Despite the fact that their initial bond was based solely on similarity of name, Elkrekeodh was very close to him, and considers him an honorary advisor.
