Origin

When the moon was beginning to wane once again, a little, unassuming Noxious Caterpillar wandered into the Shadow domain. How such a small creature managed to meander all the way into the Tangled Wood, it was impossible to tell. What was also impossible to tell, was how the little caterpillar didn’t notice the massive shape prowling in its direction.
The Shadowbinder.
The caterpillar kept munching unawares at some funny-tasting Shadow plant, not even turning towards the powerful deity. It did notice the heavy drops coming from the Shadowbinder’s eyes though, especially when they splashed all over the little bug.
Now, the tears of the Shadowbinder usually faded away quickly, but in some strange twist of fate, the dipping liquid changed the little bug.
As the Shadowbinder stalked off towards an unknown destination, the bug mutated into a strange dragon, with mandibles and an exoskeleton, but also talons and wings and fur.
She didn’t only change physically though, she changed internally too.
A conscience was formed, though it was slower than most dragons.
They could philosophize, she could only think about survival. The acquisition of food was her priority, while they lounged with food stocked aplenty in their pantries and lairs.

Plan

Tasma, as she now called herself, still kept insect instincts.
Food, home, egg, food, home, egg, an incessant drumbeat in her mind.
There was plenty to eat, especially as she migrated northeast to the Nature lands, then southwest to the Wind steppes. There was grass to graze and rivers to drink. Food was satisfied in her mind.
Home was tougher.
Increased to the size of a tundra, she couldn’t worm her way into trees, so she scraped shallow nests for herself in the ground. When she traveled to the Viridian Labyrinth, she managed to claw her way into the wood of the massive trees to sleep and hide. When in the Windswept Plateau, she couldn’t burrow into the bamboo, no matter how hard she tried. Therefore, she burrowed into the earth again, choosing the roots of the Reedcleft Ascent as her new home.
Having eggs was harder. She needed to have a hive of her own, of course, but what other dragon could have eggs with her? As she pondered this on her way to the Plateau, her luck turned and she ran into another insect. He was from Arcane labs, changed by a purple dragon with an endless hunger for knowledge. Soon after digging out her home, two tiny eggs were laid, the first of her swarm.

Reputation

The dragons living near Tasma seem to be constantly on guard. Tasma is strictly vegetarian, alongside her mate, but dragons still whisper about the pair stealing eggs for evil purposes and infecting hated dragons with plagues of locusts and other pestilences. None of these rumors are true though, and the most aggressive thing the pair does is hiss loudly and aggressively at any intruders, never reaching the point of threatening the offenders with the toxic venom that flows through them.
Their first clutch has already spread and infiltrated lairs, one even crawling its way closer and closer to the Lightweaver after being exalted into her service. Their reputation boosts their mother’s, with some dragons beginning to whisper again about the strange draconian insect that haunted their lands.
