I wasn't sure what to make of Halcyon, at first. He's very quiet, and almost seems to fade into the background wherever he goes, by his own wish. I suppose it's a habit borne of his job, being noticed as little as possible; you can hardly spy on potential traitors if you constantly get in their face. Still, his silence doesn't appear learned or unnatural. In fact, he seems quite content to be Lucian's watchful shadow - as much as any of the Magisterium can be likened to darkness. I'd even go so far as to say they tolerate each other, or more than that! Which is something of a miracle, considering Lucian's brusque nature. I tried asking Halcyon what, exactly, he and the Magisterium are waiting for Lucian to do, why he's under such intimate surveillance, but his answer was very vague and oddly casual. Something about containing dangerous truths, which… now that I think about it, he probably shouldn't have said? I find myself quite anxious, suddenly. I know this is far, far outside my job description, but if there are any mysteries to uncover here, through Halcyon's strange disregard for Magisterium secrets, I will certainly not keep my nose out of it. Information about Lucian's crimes is limited - criminally so! - but Halcyon could prove himself an invaluable source, if I can meet him alone again. Easier said than done, though, with Lucian hovering near him almost as much as Halcyon does to him. -- Written in Heather's diary, [date] |
