DETAILS
NAME Lucian PRONOUNS He/him AGE Adult PARTNER "None of your business." PERSONALITY Obstinate Reserved Self-serving |
Lucian is a faded jewel; once brilliant and captivating, but now little more than a ghost of his former glory. My first meeting with him was… eye-opening. Perhaps I should not have expected anything more than disinterest and impatience from him, but I found myself eager to speak with the so-called 'betrayer' - an eagerness which he was quick to strike down. In truth, I don't think he meant any harm with his harsh words. His reputation precedes him wherever he goes. It must be exhausting to always be met with distrust, to have to defend yourself at every turn, just to exist in peace. On the other hand, I was very young when Lucian supposedly set that Emperor free, not to mention that I lived far away from its path of destruction. No doubt the ones who were - and still are - affected by the disaster are satisfied with his punishment. Maybe my empathy is simply getting the best of me, making up a tragic backstory where there is only selfishness. Still, it feels wrong to see the former Magister like this, exiled and stripped of his title. The members of the Magisterium always seem so invincible, as if even the Gods are blinded by their radiance. Yet here Lucian is, his light dimmed by defeat and abandonment. -- Written in Heather's diary, [date] |

As one of the youngest to ever become Magister, Lucian was fated for greatness, many believed. They looked to him as the glorious past reborn, a gleaming light pushing back against the ever-creeping darkness. With an almost brutal conviction, he quickly established himself in the political landscape of the Magisterium as a force to be reckoned with. Laws were rewritten by his hand, new magical talents rose under his guidance, the Magisterium gained levels of respect not seen in centuries, and no one had any clue about the darkness brewing in the heart of that brilliant light. Until it all fell apart, one sunny Summer morning. An Emperor set free, straight into the heart of the city. Lucian in chains, refusing to testify. Countless documents censored beyond recognition, or simply burned. Many called for his death. But the Magisterium, notoriously unforgiving, pardoned him as well as they could in the face of public outrage. Sent him abroad, under careful surveillance, to serve as an ambassador as far from the Magisterium as possible; the deepest insult they could offer while still keeping him within their ranks. Whether it was for his safety or their own remains to be seen. |
