A thick, clogging smoke that reeks of ash and sulfur congests the skies, blocking view of the curious events surrounding the latest eruption in the Flintlock Fumaroles and Molten Scar regions of the Ashfall Waste.

Nobody's quite sure where Choking came from. She's always just been there whenever the family came above-mantle, similarly to the crow that leads the wolf to prey or the vulture that circles around death. She never speaks, but hunches in a bare-branched tree or atop a blackened boulder and watches the family's activities. Where they move, she follows on wing, soaring high above and spreading a smoky haze out in all directions: a creeping, stinking, cough-wrenching smog that serves as a warning to the surrounding flora and fauna of the family's approach.

Despite her strange temperament and behavior, the family accepts her as one of them, often making their camp near her roost and joking she's their watchtower or sentry. At first they believed she was a creation of the Flamecaller, same as the rest of them, since the haze she emits provides cover to their camp and hunts. When asked, however, the Deity claimed no such relation.

Choking has a hobby in ceramics. She takes a clawful of clay, kneads and tears at it, pummels it with closed fists, squishes it into a misshapen lump, fires it to bisque, then hurls the piece to the ground and stomps it to dust with great enthusiasm. None of the family understands it, but they support her regardless, and she seems quite satisfied with it.

Has no eyelids, like a snake, in that she never blinks.
