Rough around the edges Maul is a contrast to his more Eloquent-yet-insane War-Brother, Sezmu, and more honorable captain, Carver. Because of his plague-heritage-influenced personality- namely the need to constantly be stronger and push himself and his Band to their limits, he has becoming one of Icnoyotl's favorite fighters. She has taken him under her wing, and whenever his normal sparing partners can't step up, icnoyotl provides herself a more than adequate substitute. He's awkward and nervous around all other females, and tends to embarrass himself by making inappropriate jokes at very inappropriate times, so he's given up the short-lived pursuit of a mate. It also doesn't help he's self-conscious, and can get a little defensive, about his scraggly and thin mane.

Only his band brothers know that the coarse tundra desperately wants a mate. Not just a breeding partner, but a life mate.

As much as he loves a good fight, Carver has rubbed off on him some in the years they've spent together, and Maul finds a soothing sort of focus in silence. He's picked up a old skill from hatchling-hood when still a part of Clan Gainstrive: Carving little animal and dragon statutes out of scrap wood, he meditates on the motions, steadying himself, when he and Carver hide away while off duty.
