Born to an arranged match between a harem dancer and a lowly courier dragon, Hayate was birthed into a small world of silks, finery and imprisonment within the walls of her father's home. Used to a comfortable lifestyle, despite their low status, she was raised alongside her siblings in isolation from the world outside.

Hayate is bosterous and restless, dreaming of a life of high adventure--she watched the dragons of the clan's Skyguard drill every morning, return home from the hunt and battles victorious and shining! She knew that should be her out there, sword in maw, wings and claws in defense of clan and home--and instead there she was, trapped in the Silken Quarter with her father and siblings, learning dances and tea ceremonies and the names of useless, obscure dragons to impress other useless, obscure dragons....

Her chance for adventure came when she tumbled into the lap of the large imperial Ailen, who couldn't find a way to politely turn down the insistent salesman selling her to him. She didn't much care where he was taking her, all she knew was she was getting out! Brought back to the Den-Tree with her, her enthusiasm for combat did not go unnoticed and she was place into the merc training camp once old enough.

As much as many of her childhood experiences annoy her to remember, she almost appreciates the skills she learned, as the dances that were forced upon her taught her the grace and swiftness to easily master the dual sword style of her initially reluctant mentor, Kerberou. Still waiting to be assigned a warband, she is overjoyed that her grumpy mentor approves of her growing skills and expects it won't be too long before she is able to accept missions with her new war siblings.
