Droverson and his husband are not mages, nor do they consider themselves "mad." Their reputations are not disgraced, or at least they weren't until they took up their current jobs. In fact, it was quite the opposite. The pair worked as mercenaries, guided mostly by King's sense of justice and goodness. They were, quite frankly, heroes-for-hire more than mercenaries, only taking jobs that tasked them with protecting, rescuing, avenging, and other such good deeds. Despite the relative rarity of these jobs, their skills grew until they were in high demand.

Droverson refuses to tell anyone how someone of his reputation how ended up in a place as controversial and dangerous as the Retreat. He and his husband were not hired by the Mages...they showed up on the Retreat's doorstep demanding a job. Azar knew she would be a fool to turn them away, and allowed them to take the positions they requested: guarding the council while they met. When the council are apart, Droverson patrols the grounds.

He takes his job as seriously as any other he's ever taken. With a face of stone and a voice as cold as ice, he ensures that no aggressors make it to the heart of the Retreat.
