Origins
Mori was on top of the world. When he playfully pointed off into the distance during his walk, an unexpected beam of light shot out of his finger. After years of waiting, his temporal powers finally manifested in him as an adult.Mori wasn’t gifted with the same temporal strength that his father or aunts possessed. As a hatchling, his powers never came. Mori was sidelined, left to watch his father’s family grow stronger, freer, with each passing year. He was left behind. But not anymore, he thought to himself. He had a vague idea of what these powers entailed. Time travel, enhanced strength, spirit communication. These inherited powers showed up differently in each dragon. And he could not wait to find out what his were and why the universe made him wait so long for them. Elated, Mori held out his arms, drew forth his newly formed powers, and released. Where am I? Mori woke up in a dark, damp room, eyes facing the ceiling above him. The smell was horrendous. His nose was flooded by the unmistakable smell of rot and decay. When he sat himself up, his body creaked and squelched. Mori looked at himself and screamed. His body was in a state of decay. Pieces of himself were sewn together as if they had fallen off. Panicked, Mori started to stand up. Moving around was difficult at first, but when he got up, Mori could feel his body start to repair itself. Standing still, he let himself calm down. His eyes started to adjust to the darkness. Around him were other corpses. Suddenly he understood. I died, didn’t I? How long was I dead? Mori searched for an exit. A few days after he escaped the morgue he was held in, Mori discovered that he had been dead for weeks, but it was only recently that they found and moved his corpse to the local morgue. He must have accidentally killed himself when he tried to test his powers out for the first time. That explains the terrible state my body was in. Just my luck. At this point, Mori's body had completely repaired itself, though he was still left with scars where his limbs were reattached. It seems the power he originally had disappeared with his death, but in its place, he gained something new. Mori didn’t understand how he brought himself back to life, but he did, and it seems like he could continue to do so. He was excited to find out just how far he could take this. |
