Day 1: The Foundling
Bewitch had heard tales, legends, stories of The Firstborn – the first dragons ever to be created by the Deities, in this case, the Arcanist created them. Carved from the stars and pieces of the Pillar itself. The pair had struck out and created their own clan, a venerable lair near the Focal Point in Starfall Isles, nestled beneath the Observatory with a glorious view of the Crystalspine Reaches. The children of The Firstborn were second generation stardust and Pillar stone, almost as pure as the Firstborns themselves. Bewitch, despite their many travels throughout the land, had never encountered a child of The Firstborn…

…until today.

A great quake shook the ground in the early morning, stirring Bewitch from their slumber. Rising, shifting into their male form to make themself bigger and to move faster, they raced across the Shifting Expanse, towards the source of the quaking. They flew faster than they ever had before, pulled by something they couldn’t explain or understand. As they drew closer to the edges of the Highland Scrub, they saw immediately the thing that had caused the quake – a Meteorite, fallen to earth, had caused a crater not incomparable to the Carrion Canyon itself. The Meteorite shook as Bewitch approached, like a hatching egg. In a matter of seconds, a full-grown Guardian dragon with pulsing Primal Arcane energy pouring from her eyes stood before Bewitch. She looked around, confused. “Where am I?” she asked, slightly dazed, stars glittering in her eyes.

Bewitch shifted slowly to their female form, softly, so as not to startle the Guardian. “You’re just outside of the Shifting Expanse, where my clan has their lair. We are Bewitch, Young One – what is your name?”
The Guardian shook her head, slowly. “I… I don’t think I have a name.” She looked sad, and a little worried.

Bewitch smiled, and reached out tentatively with a wing, aiming to be comforting. “That’s ok! You are young, it is perfectly normal to not have found your name yet. We could help you find it, if you’d like.” Bewitch paused for a moment, then continued, “though, the process of finding your true name can be one of transformation. Getting a name, being given one, is a simpler process to be sure, but certainly less fulfilling.”

The Guardian thought for a moment, seeming to mull over the idea of transforming. She nodded though, after a moment. “Yes, Bewitch. I would like to find my name.” She looked upon the ancient being, pouring Primal Energy out of her eyes and over and around Bewitch. They closed their eyes, and drifted in the power for a moment, before speaking again.

“Do you remember anything of where you came from? Of your Lineage, or your origins? Your eyes… they tell me you were born in the Starfall Isles, blessed by the Arcanist himself with his own power flowing through you, but that is all I can tell of you.”

The Guardian paced, circling the wreckage of her vessel. “I… I had sisters… in my clutch. Two sisters, older – I… hatched last. But then I went to sleep… a deep sleep, I think for quite a while. I slept beside my sisters, waiting, I think. Our parents… they..” she stumbled, her eyes shut tightly, trying to remember. “They were bright, shining, beautiful – made of stardust and…”

Bewitch jumped forward, “Stardust and Pillar stone?” They asked excitedly, accidentally shifting forms before they realized it.

The Guardian jumped back, slightly startled by the shift. “Y-yes, yes I think so.” Bewitch’s dark eyes shone bright.

“You… you’re a daughter of The Firstborns! Daughter of the Stars! Your parents… they were the very first dragons ever created by the deities, the first beings beyond the deities to walk this planet.” Bewitch was stunned, never in their wildest dreams had they imagined they might come across a child of The Firstborns, to be graced by the presence of such a strong lineage. “Come, clan Aeternae will help you find yourself, to find your True Name, and to find your True Self, if you are willing to transform into that entity.”

Together, the pair flew back over the Carrion Canyon, to Clan Aeternae to start their quest to find the child’s true name. “We’ll start out slow. Today, we’ll introduce you to the rest of the clan, and get you situated, find a familiar perhaps, maybe make a few friends. And then tomorrow, I’ll have you help me open some of these chests that we’ve been finding. Sometimes they have Nocturne eggs inside, and sometimes the eggs decide to hatch for us.” Bewitch told the Guardian all about the clan, their search for the Coliborn, the many hatchlings that had joined the clan on the Winter Solstice, about Aiden’s prophecy, and Bewitch’s own plans for amassing powerful dragons to help fight against the Shade. The Guardian had much to think about as they flew, and knew that this clan would change her, transform her, forever.

Day 2: The Transformation

Bewitch and the Guardian sat down the following day after a restful night, surrounded by chests. The Guardian wanted to open them one at a time at first – together they opened four, and on the fourth, an Egg and a Kyrorinrin familiar were found! The Guardian excitedly held the egg in her claws, watching it. When it didn’t hatch right away, she gently placed it beside her as they opened some more chests.

After a few moments, she felt the egg start to shake beside her, cracking from the inside. She threw the chest she had been opening at Bewitch, who caught it with surprise, and she put her face right in front of the egg, eager and impatient to meet the hatchling within. After another moment, it hatched! A small Nocturne with an icy gaze looked up at the Guardian and cooed slightly. The Guardian nuzzled the Nocturne hatchling gently, and carefully helped to remove the pieces of eggshell that remained on her wings.

The Kyrorinrin that had been inside the same chest had been wandering around with the other familiars, but as soon as the egg had started to shake, it moved swiftly over to the hatchling, and began to loop around her playfully. The hatchling wagged her wings happily.

As the Guardian watched the two play happily, her heart full of joy, the second egg that they had found within the chests began to hatch too!

The new male stumbled awkwardly over to the other hatchling and her familiar, and began to join in on the fun. The Guardian swelled with pride and belonging; the first thing that had felt right since she had awoken. “These will be my children, I will care for them and watch them grow, teach them and learn with them.”

Without warning, the Guardian began to glow…

And when the light finally dissipated, the Guardian had completely changed! Bewitch stared at her, in awe of the transformation. “You’ve found a piece of yourself, and your Arcane powers and lineage helped transform you further into who you are meant to be.”
The Guardian gazed lovingly at her new colors, and at her two adopted children, and watched them play while she and Bewitch continued opening chests for the clan.
