Jame joined Nirihai and Sylrani when they visited his birth clan in the Southern Icefield. The idea was to take the little hatchling to the mainland, and later let him accompany them to find his charge. However, he ended up staying put when Nirihai had her first clutch, keeping firmly beside the eggs until they hatched. He knew he had found it, but he couldn't put the nature of his charge into words. Only much later was he able to express to Nirihai that he wanted to protect the future of her clan.

Jame soon became mates with Eliusa, firstborn from the clutch. Whenever she, or anyone, can't stay with their eggs, Jame guards the nursery, checking on each egg, playing with hatchlings, and keeping them warm and safe from intruders. He also often guards the whole base when most of the clan is out for festivals, taking leave only when he is sure it will be safe.
