Biography
BonBon is the clan's secretary/librarian. She's not much for fieldwork, but still has a huge curiosity and loves discoveries. So, when the others bring back their notes from their research trips, BonBon is the one who organizes the notes, writes the final reports, and often is the one who makes the connections.
Amaris may be the leader, but if you need anything you ought to go to BonBon first. She's the one who knows how everything runs around here. As the clan archivist, BonBon is in charge of keeping a record of the clan's accomplishments, which can be found below. |

~Stories~
The library was on fire.
BonBon stared speechlessly at the mess as her clanmates pitched in. Fire in an Arcane lair, that wasn’t too uncommon. There were always too many experiments, too many curious minds, and too many Arcanites in a center of learning like this. But BonBon had always been on the careful side, keeping an eagle eye over the archives and tossing anyone with a tendency towards villainy and explosives (usually Sillabare) out the nearest window before they could light something on fire. Maintaining peace and quiet was a difficult job - one that she did well, and prided herself on.
Until the table had caught on fire and exploded in a flash burn that had engulfed everything else.
“This is not my fault!” the Coatl in question was protesting as Amaris and Kamra chewed him out at the same time, voices rising and falling in a conflicting candace against the terrible, crackling backdrop of flames. In lieu of their impressive argument, BonBon felt like sobbing or screaming, and she wasn’t sure which would be the winner of that particular race. “Look, I know I’m the most obvious suspect, but this time, I really didn’t do anything!”
“How do you explain all the fire, then?” Amaris’ voice was as monotone as another Fae, but even a non-Fae could tell he was furious, and BonBon could guess the reason why. “Because, if you hadn’t noticed, there is FIRE everywhere,” he threw his arms up. “Fire!”
“Okay, but in my defense-”
“FIRE,” Amaris repeated in the voice of doom, and Kamra tugged him back with one wing.
The shock of the flames had taken every tact BonBon had possessed, but seeing her clanmates coming close to blows, her brain jump- started painfully and she was jerked back into action. She hurried forward, taking Amaris by the shoulders before he could continue screaming or blow something up, because one explosion a day was enough. They didn’t have a second library to spare.
“Don’t worry, your notes are fine,” she assured him in a low voice, because that was the important thing. She was the only one Amaris trusted with his notes for his secret research, and she could only imagine the kind of panic he was in, considering the, well, fire. Fortunately, BonBon had stored his notes in a hidden archive with magical wards. She’d added the fireproofing spell to those wards as a joke, but in retrospect, it’d been pretty smart of her.
Amaris’ fins flattened. “Really?”
“Yes. The fire didn’t scorch that part of the library. The clan activity logs should be fine as well,” she added as she checked over what the initial flames hadn’t touched. Not that Amaris seemed to care about the clan activity logs, but it’d do him good to focus on something that wasn’t his research.
It was by pure luck the explosion hadn’t extend as far as the archives where actually important things were kept, though a few shelves BonBon didn’t need to be in flames were charred beyond recognition. Still, considering the heat of the flames, she’d been pretty lucky. She rifled through the un-charred portion of the library and shook her head. “As far as I can tell, only the usual reading material, and some of the scrolls in the center of the library are lost for good,” she reported. “But we can always just purchase copies of those. Is anyone hurt?”
“No,” Kamra replied. The Tundra had been the first to respond to the explosion, her heightened olfactory skills giving her an extra push. She was using magic now to extinguish the flames as she reported. “The students from the Arcane Academy are all fine-”
“This is definitely your fault,” Jinx was yelling at Sillabare as he tied himself into a knot not unsimilar to a noose. “My homework is gone. GONE. All of it. You said this was going to be a group study session. You said the library would never blow up. IT’S ON FIRE. THERE’S SO MUCH FIR-”
“We should stop them,” Draumur said to Seren from the sidelines, his feathers only faintly charred. He’d help hold back the initial flames, and now that Kamra and Amaris were handling things, he’d stepped back. “And we could stop them. But it’d be more entertaining if they fought.”
“If they fight, there will be explosions,” Stella deadpanned. She’d lost her entire backpack, and now had her fins set to a distinct pout. “Loud. Big. Brutal. Look, I’m all for getting Jinx blown up, but we’ve got homework due and deadlines to meet, and we no longer have a library thanks to SOMEONE!” the last word came out with the force and deadly appeal of a hurricane, and everyone winced, because there were three things all wise dragons feared: a stormy sea, a moonless night, and a Fae’s monotone scream.
“It really wasn’t me!!” Sillabare complained. Nobody listened to him. Especially not the other students, who had seen him light his textbook on fire.
“Alright, alright, that’s enough,” BonBon interrupted. “Let’s focus on putting out the fire first.” Kamra’s magic kept the flames contained in the center of the library, but BonBon had no desire to let the entire center be burnt down to the ground. Grumbling, the Arcane students pitched in. In a matter of minutes, the fires were forced to suffocate, and BonBon could finally breathe.
“What’s going on?” A clear, sharp voice cut through the smog, and BonBon looked up from an ashy shelf to see two familiar Coatls striding up. Katiyana spun on her heels, taking in the giant, charred structure, and nodded slowly with the tact of a dragon used to Arcane antics. Rheana stared about, eyes wide and expression one of a dragon who’d slept through the apocalypse and woken up to find the world in ruins.
“Mama, what’s--” Cubb came bounding into the charred wasteland, and Rheana immediately clapped both paws over his eyes. “I can’t see!” he protested, scrabbling futilely against her. “There’s smoke! Why does it smell like smoke?!”
“Don’t… don’t look,” Rheana told him, curling him into a ball and tucking him beneath her paws. Cubb’s muffled complains came out of her feathers as she turned to BonBon. “What… happened?” she asked, voice plaintive.
“Something that shouldn’t have happened,” BonBon admitted, her feathers twitching slightly. To her far left, the Arcane students were arguing with each other. Jinx had Sillabare in a headlock, and nobody seemed inclined to untie the Spiral. “How can I help you?”
“We’re here to log our hunting trips,” Katiyana explained, looking far too calm for someone who’d strolled into the clan’s personal fiery apocalypse. “But I suspect that might not be possible now.”
That would be true, since the hunting logs had been fed to the flames during the explosion, but fortunately, BonBon had contingencies. Of course, she hadn’t been expecting to use them, but when you were the librarian of an Arcane clan, you learned, through trial and error, to have backups, contingencies, and a few failsafe plans in case of that “what if.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got a copy of your hunting logs here,” she replied, busying herself with pulling out the file. After putting out the flames, she’d salvaged everything she could and dragged them over to an unburnt portion of the library. Digging through a half-melted cabinet, she came up with the familiar leather book and handed it over to Katiyana, who took it with a nod and a smile. “By the way, did you see Talise and Synelia on your way here?
Katiyana nodded. “They’ve certainly heard about the fire, but I believe they’re busy.”
“Tell them to come here later. I’ve got their accounts and records, but I want them to double check to make sure nothing is missing,” BonBon replied. The shopkeepers’ records were mostly untouched by the flames. The main casualties had been the books caught in the epicenter of the explosion, and BonBon wasn’t too worried. She knew what books were there by memory, and had already made a list of the ones that needed replacing.
Katiyana gave her an affirmative as she closed the hunting log with a snap. “By the way, do you need our help with-”
“- and if I get flunked out of Chemistry, I will have your spine,” Jinx yelled at Sillabare. “I will have your spine, so when I am old and feeble and a dropout because SOMEONE burned my notes, I can use it like a cane to beat the hell out of dragons like you!”
Rheana continued covering Cubb’s ears. He squirmed, protesting. “Need help?” she asked.
“Please get those students out of the library,” BonBon said on a sigh. Even if the flames had devoured everything, she still had to play her part as the clan’s record keeper. Usually, at this time of the day, she’d be taking her lunch break, her only break amid the many records that needed keeping, but that wasn’t happening now.
Rheana grinned. “Will do. How violent am I allowed to get?”
“Don’t say that in front of Cubb,” Katiyana scolded. With two strides, she caught Jinx with one hand, and Sillabare with the other, and without another word, began dragging them out of the library. The rest of the students followed, and soon, BonBon was left alone.
She sighed. Gathering herself, she hurried towards her desk, which had miraculously survived the ordeal. As the secretary of the clan, she had to keep her calm, and she had to keep the records. There was always work to be done, and just because there’d been a fire didn’t mean she could slack off now.
She could still hear Jinx and Sillabare screaming at each other outside, but she ignored them as she rifled through a stack of papers. Dealing with other dragons was a job left to others, because she liked her job better without them.
And, if she was being honest with herself, less fire would help, too.
