Biography

Lux is an accomplished scholar, a leading expert in her field and a dragon who is very proud of her mind. She was to be the lead researcher on this, the Lanternlighters' first expedition together, and they were meant to find secrets deep in the Hewn City which have never been found before. Things did not go according to plan.

Lux was the first to realize that they could not leave the Everdark, and the first to witness another dragon be eaten by that same darkness. She is the dragon who theorized that light drives the lurking creature back, and she is determined to be the dragon who makes the discovery which frees them from this prison.

Faction

Lux believes that the only way to break the curse on the Lanternlighters is to venture into the Everdark, seek out its source, and either reason with it or destroy it. To this end, she has founded the Seeker faction. They make frequent excursions into the darkness, accompanied only by lanterns and what magic they can afford, trying to map its corners and find the center. Lux theorizes that whatever lies at the heart of the Everdark is alive; perhaps, whatever it is, it can lift the curse.

They are making discovery after discovery, things that the Lux of the past would have been delighted and amazed by/ As it stands, though, none of those discoveries have freed them from the Everdark or revealed any of its secrets, and Lux is getting frustrated.

Possessions

Lux keeps her research notes on hand at all times, as well as a lantern and plenty of oil to fuel it; she often stays up through entire nights poring through notes and translations and old records, searching for anything that even resembles the Everdark in any lore. It doesn't exist: she is certain that anybody who encountered the Everdark in the past perished in it. If they don't find something soon, the Lanternlighters could be next.

Lux brought few items of comfort on the expedition with her, and in the current crisis it feels selfish to keep anything frivolous. She instead focuses on what is absolutely necessary, like many others.

Associates

Melchior | Lover | Seeker Faction

Melchior is Lux's second-in-command and another talented researcher, though his area of expertise is in ancient religions. The two of them, along with their other partner, Lonan, make up the group doing the most analysis on the artifacts and texts the Seekers acquire. They work well together, but they have not made any breakthroughs.

Lonan | Lover | Seeker Faction

Lonan spends much of his time assisting Lux and Melchior in analyzing the artifacts they have recovered from the Everdark, but he rarely comes on their excursions anymore. There was a near-miss, and he was very nearly lost to the Everdark; Lux is loathe to put him at risk again, especially after his eyes mysteriously changed from his time in the darkness.

Sunborn | Associate | Sunlighter Faction

Of all of the dragons trapped in the Everdark with her, Lux despises Sunborn most. She is irrational, dangerous, and wasteful; her words are pretty, and her conviction is admirable, but there
is no scientific basis for her actions and she is wasting resources that Lux could put into exploring the Everdark in her desperate pushes for sunlight. Lux can barely be in the same room as her.

Gabriel | Associate | Sentinel Faction

Lux understands the need for unity and cooperation in a crisis, but Gabriel's leadership never fails to frustrate her. He is so focused on keeping dragons from conflicting that he allows the Sunlighters to exist, wasting resources and endangering themselves; Lux wishes he could see that sometimes, not every perspective is a correct one.
