RULE KEEPER
My Rules for Dragon Breeding:
1.) Barring exceptional circumstances, royalty can only reproduce with commoner virgins
2.) Royalty must be gene diverse and gene rich (no basic genes allowed), so that no genes die out. This is the reason for the Gene Checklists.
3.) If 2 or more eggs are laid 1 hatchling must be kept, the other hatchlings must be exalted or sold. Hatchlings are judged against their siblings by their beauty, the rarity of their genes and other factors.
4.) If 1 egg is laid the hatchling is judged against hypothetical siblings. "Would this dragon likely be kept if it had a sibling?"
5.) Every commoner must reproduce and must only reproduce with royalty.
6.) Royalty meet on a bi-monthly basis in what is called The Royal Council or The Council to discuss changes to these rules, enforcement of these rules and the future of Gollia.
7.) When a new gene comes out, use a gene change scroll on one of the existing royalty rather buying new royalty.
8.) Only exalt commoners who have been mated.
9.) Dragons must be grouped according to breed.
10.) Exceptions to any of these rules can be made by petitioning The Council to grant the exception.
Priest/ess Dragons
11.) To be a Priest or Priestess a commoner must be born with three rare genes, although runes and spines are permitted as limited tertiary genes. Priests must never be exalted, and their lines must never be permitted to die out. They do not concern themselves with worldly affairs, their time is spent praising and serving Arcanist. A dragon born with one of these desired traits is a "priest-hopeful", that is, his or her line now has a chance to enter the Priestly Class, and the dragon does not wish to waste this opportunity and will thus be promised. A priestly-hopeful dragon can be promised to either a suitable monarch or to a priest.
For an explanation of how these rules work in practice, see Bogsneak Queen Paka. For more on Priestly Law, see Guardian King Vesuvius.
