Yrian wasn't born to the sea, truthfully. It called to him sometime later, after leaving the chilly land he had been born in. It was hard to say whether or not he loved or hated being out on the open sea. That simplified sailing far too much, it simplified piracy too much. No, it was right for him and where he belonged, but did he love every moment?

He'd always been passionate about the things he did. Gunpowder and lead were his muse, and he crafted them finely and could hit a target at even great distance. He knew how to compensate for the roll of waves under a ship's deck, but he also knew how to aim steady on land. He was a craftsmen as much as he was gunner on that ship.

Truthfully, he'd expected to die there. That was sort of the expectation when you were a pirate, and when they had snagged the treasure of an adventuring guild he thought he might have finally run out of that luck.

Yrian liked to think he wasn't much for romance, but he remembered the moment he lay eyes on Chiron. It was like the world had slowed, this massive gilded imperial ready to rain fire on them all. Yrian could not help himself, this was a hook he could not pull from his feathers.

When he sought out Chiron again, after they had made port (their hectic battle months behind them) he had looked at Yrian like he was mad. Maybe he was, but he had asked him for a drink and that had been that. The two of them met frequently, and one thing led to another and he found himself being asked a question by the serious imperial he never expected.

"Would you come with me? To my home?" Chiron's eyes had met his own, and gods. How could Yrian say no to that? He couldn't. All the gold in the world could not outshine the gold of Chiron's eyes. So he had nodded, and stepped closer to him.

Yes. He thought that maybe he would do just that.
