Tex

Tex was born into a large clan in the
Parched Canyonwalks, to Dulce, a lightning representative on their governing council, and Ruvaak, an apprentice mortician and acolyte of the Shadowbinder. While he enjoyed listening to Dulce's stories of council discussions, and was fascinated by Ruvaak's descriptions of her work, he always felt that the investigation and study of the remains of Sornieth's past was his calling.

When he came of age, Tex left his
mothers' clan to seek apprenticeship with an archeologist in the Colonnades of Antiquity. After years of study, he decided to complete his PhD on the archeological history of the Viridian Labyrinth-although deciding on a precise topic and thesis title is proving harder than he expected!

Tex loves to ask fellow members of Leaf's family
about their family histories, and shares an interest in genealogy with Lanelle.
He gets along well with most members of the
clan, and especially enjoys talking with Vera about Shadow flight history and customs, and Paige about her time in Lightning-as although he was raised in Dragonhome, his mothers' home flights and culture heavily influenced his upbringing.
He and Crystal can spend hours debating wether
or not a certain artefact lends credence to a certain historical account, although he has yet to be invited to one of hir 'history debate' meetings.

Bonescout safari (Greenskeeper gathering 2021)
flightrisingguessinggame_tree_200px.png Sunday 23rd May

Tex pulled off his hat and craned back his neck to study the skeleton dangling from the tree above him. Noting the unusual length of the spine and what appeared to be ribs extending down the lumbar region, he sat back on his heels as he consulted his mental encyclopaedia of dragon breeds.
Peering closer at the hind-limbs of the poor dragon, (and regretting not bringing his binoculars) the bony spur-like structures arising from the tarsal region seemed to confirm his suspicions.
He turned to the dragon next to him-"looks like a spiral, doesn't it?".
Monday 24th May

Tex leaned down to more closely inspect the tangled mess of roots and bones. The incomplete remains certainly made it harder to figure out who they came from! Tilting his head to one side, the more upright bone did seem strangely reminiscent of an antler...? Considering the dragon breeds the tended to possess branching horns, he decided that the stout centre of the horn and the way it's branches curled made it unlikely to have belonged to an Imperial. Muttering to himself, he mused-'Could a Gaoler have somehow gotten their horns wedged in the roots, or could the bones have been swept here post-mortem?'

flightrisingguessinggame_river_200px.png Tuesday 25th May

Tex leaned down to get a better look at the bones. There seemed to be a couple of prongs of bone extending from the head, but not enough to suggest horns. More notably, the structure of the forelimb and wing appeared to be continuous, with the bony structures of the wing no longer than 'arm' of the wing. The neck doesn't appear long enough to be a Fae-it seemed to him that it was most likely to be a Bogsneak.

Wednesday 26th May

Tex stared in awe at the floating remains-he'd never encountered anything like this on his previous digs! The obscuring magic made it hard to pick out any definitive identifying features, but the lack or horns and distinctive wing shape seemed to indicate that this was the body of a Veilspun. But what series of events could possibly have resulted in this-was the magic the cause of death, or was it an attempt at preservation? He wondered how much of the corpse was left beneath the magic aura shielding the remains.

flightrisingguessinggame_everbloom_200px.png Thursday 27th May

Tex gently removed his hat out of respect for the deceased, and shifted his feet carefully to ensure none of the remains were trampled on. While the bones alone were only enough to indicate a breed with well-developed wings, the presence of feathers narrows the possible identity of the victims to a Coatl, Skydancer, or Wildclaw. Thinking back to the more detailed biology of these breeds, he remembered the association between sickness in Coatls and faded feathers-while the colours fading due to time and light exposure was possible, there is no evidence that favours another breed-at least without further examination of the remaining bones.

Friday 28th May

Tex leaned in to closer inspect the bones held in Maryaxo's claws. The enlarged primary claw and sturdy fused metacarpals immediately reminded him of the powerful hind-legs of his clan's resident Jackdaws, and the remains of others surrounding this set of skeletal remnants indicated a violent manner of death consistent with Wildclaw culture, especially considering the many gouges littering the bones, reminiscent of a life of combat. He could only hope that his clan-mates wouldn't meet the same fate-although he supposed that he didn't know Etera well enough to say for sure that this wouldn't be the way she wants to go.

Looking around at his fellow explorers, he was disappointed to realise that they were nearing the end of their journey-it had been a wonderful experience, and an interesting challenge-perhaps reading through and organising his notes from the trip would finally help him decide on a PhD topic!

If nothing else, he thinks the diagrams from this trip will provide ample material to puzzle the hatchlings with, and hopefully inspire some more budding archeologists!

Dustcarve Dig (Anniversary event 2021)
Official recording of the event:

The Dragonhome Preservation Guild's expedition broke ground, with Armik leading the excavation charge. A Deepseer, Tetra, joined the expedition in the hopes that they might reach the Earthshaker and ask him about her own missing deity, the Tidelord. Edgar, a courier dragon who had his own interesting experience on the Windswept Plateau, also arrived to help Velya’s guild in their mission to answer the Earthshaker’s summons.
---

Guided by the magnetic pull of the Earthshaker’s magic, the expedition dug straight down into a chamber that branched in two different directions: To the east, what appeared to be a pre-cut tunnel. To the west, a cavernous chamber beyond a set of stairs.

After giving her guild quite the fright with an impulsive moment of pit caving, the elderly Velya shared that her guild was in trouble. Her apprentice Fetter—who was next-in-line for her position—had been dragon-napped previously and was still missing.
---

The expedition moved east, following the direction of the Earthshaker’s magic. They found tunneling here to be alarmingly easy, but even more surprising was the glowing green light they discovered as they continued their descent.

At the end, they found a shrine, and the source of the green light looked to be a radiating crystal displayed within. The current working theory for the discovery is that the shrine was created by a race completely different from dragons, one unable to withstand the energy from the crystal. Scholars from the Oculus of the Eleven were sent for so that further studies could be carried out on the enigmatic gemstone’s origins.
---

The strong magical essences of the Earthshaker pulled the expedition back in a westward direction and down the carved stairs. At the bottom of the steps, they found what looked to be the ancient remains of an Earth flight city. Neither the Guild or the Oculus of the Eleven had any records of such a city or the construction methods used to erect it. More study is still needed to this day.
---

Disaster struck the expedition when a section of the cave floor between the city and the chamber entrance collapsed, dumping their supplies into the raging waters below. What was once an aquifer for the ancient city had, at some point, eroded into a full blown subterranean river, wearing away at the cavern above it. The Deepseer went into a state of deep meditation and determined the river itself was actually relatively new to the area, forced there by the Tidelord at some undetermined point for reasons still unknown. While she did not hear the Tidelord during her aquatic meditation, she did see visions of the Earthshaker within.

Deep under Dragonhome, beyond the aquifer-turned-surging river, the expedition found a strange chamber filled with intricately-carved statues made from an unknown mineral never before identified on Sornieth. The statues were overflowing with the Earthshaker’s magic. It was evident shortly thereafter that they were not statues at all, but a new breed of dragon—the Obelisk—created recently by the Earthshaker to help both the dragons of Dragonhome and the world over defend themselves from the threat rising from deep below.

The Dragonhome Preservation Guild did not find the Earthshaker, as he had already departed deeper into Dragonhome to investigate the source of the threat to both his realm and Sornieth.
Tex's Diary:

It takes a lot to drag me away from my research, but the Earthshaker's summons and the archeological expedition of an era is no event to miss out on!

Day 1:
I joined the team examining the material cleared out during excavation, to scour it for any small artifacts or fossils potentially embedded in the stone fragments, and to take note of the rock type and mineral contents. We haven't found anything so far-just lots of nice granite!

Day 3:
I've been checking in with the members of the clan who are flying shifts to help keep the dig supplied with beams, rope, blasting powder, and lantern oil, and it seems 'dustcarve-fever' is truly sweeping the flights. It seems in my focus on my work I missed the true scale of the support and enthusiasm the clans across Sornieth have drummed up, even more than I would have expected at the prospect of answering the call of a deity!

Day 4:
It's such a shame that with the study of the crystal handed over to the Occulus, it's been cordoned off to the rest of us. I guess they're worried about any disturbances destroying valuable clues, and the possibility of the radiation being less harmless to dragons than initially thought.

Day 5:
Too much to study! No time!

Day 6:
Dismayed to find some of my precious rock samples were among the victims of the collapse. It's hard to stay negative when there's still so much of the city to examine-it's been so well preserved under the low oxygen and no light conditions.

Day 7:
The dragons running/flying supplies to us are starting to look rather worn out-hopefully we can find what the Earthshaker is leading us to before anyone collapses.

Day 8:
I've managed to talk myself into the group rappelling down to the river-cave system to collect rock samples, so hopefully I'll be there if the find anything interesting in the next day or so.

Day 9:
Too much to write about-in summary, no Earthshaker or Tidelord, new breed of dragon created by the Earthshaker, something about protecting us from a threat rising from the deep? More importantly, the clan has a new addition!

Hopefully he'll be able to tell us more about this new threat-apparently most of the new Obelisks were each drawn to a specific clan? I'm not sure why he was drawn to us, but who am I to question the Earthshaker's wisdom!
