The purple crystal ball glowed bright in the dark chamber as it exposed two dragons from afar. An old Nocturne spoke with the ghostly spirit of a Spiral. Neither knew they were being spied on.
“...but this,” the Nocturne said, his voice just muffled through the crystal, and he showed the spirit a glowing green pendant on a delicate, silver chain, “is the only way I know that will keep us together.”
The blood-red Imperial that watched them smiled. The Madam Mei would be most pleased to hear of this. He could not hear the Spiral's thoughts, but the Nocturne answered.
“Together...Gallagher and Greer may be more powerful than him.” The Nocturne stared at the necklace a few moments more, and slipped it on, hiding it and the pendant's precious contents under the worn mantle he donned.
“Still in need of help, Dewlap?” the Imperial, Antares, mused. He waved one paw over the crystal orb, making the scene before him vanish. “Perhaps you may get to see Mei again, after all...”
With that, he, too, vanished with the breath of a breeze.

...
In another shadowed chamber, sat another deep-red Imperial. She barely moved, save for her slow breathing, and she listened. She listened for that what was not here, but beyond here...
She heard the faintest of whispers, and opened her violet eyes. Antares had returned, and he bowed low, stepping forward to kiss her jewelled claws. Madam Mei waved for him to speak.
“Our little wizard has discovered the talisman,” Antares' voice thrummed.
“Dewlap sang its spell?” Mei wondered, her eyes flashing.
Antares nodded once. “He'll be giving the necklace to Trove, soon.”
“You were right to send the dream-vision to young Rockpools. What better dragon than one of Water? And one Dewlap trusts.”
“Do you think he would remember you? And the deal he struck?”
“No,” Mei's answer was immediate, but not cold or harsh. “Only I own that memory now. When the time comes, he will get it back. Something else is on your mind, isn't there?” she added, boring her eyes into his.
“Dewlap hasn't yet escaped his past,” Antares said. “He may be in dire need of your help once again.”
“Perhaps,” Mei agreed with a grin. “And I know just the dragons...”
